On Tuesday, May 12, 2026, Queen Mary of Denmark took part in the official inauguration of Aalborg University Hospital. At approximately 180,000 square meters, the new Aalborg University Hospital is the largest construction project ever undertaken in North Jutland.
The hospital was built in collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine at Aalborg University and is located near University College of Northern Denmark. Children from Aalborg University Hospital’s creative workshop created the ceremonial ribbon that Her Majesty the Queen cut during the inauguration of the new hospital.
Before the official opening ceremony, the Queen took part in a guided tour, during which she had the opportunity to speak with a patient, a family member, and several staff members affiliated with the hospital’s children and youth department. The university hospital’s chapel, decorated by artist Bjørn Nørgaard, served as the setting for musical performances.
