On May 8, 2026, the Prince and Princess of Wales hosted the second garden party of 2026 at Buckingham Palace on behalf of King Charles. The Prince and Princess of Wales were joined by the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and Zara Tindall. Approximately 8,000 guests from the United Kingdom and around the world attended the garden party.
For the occasion, the Princess of Wales wore a flowing polka-dot dress by Self-Portrait. The Duchess of Edinburgh wore a pale blue midi dress by Roland Mouret, while Zara Tindall wore a blue floral-appliqué satin midi dress by Leo Lin. The third garden party will take place later this month, while the annual Edinburgh garden party at the Palace of Holyroodhouse will be held on June 30.

The Princess of Wales looks utterly delightful and elegant. Zara’s dress is stunning, and her hat, well I don’t like the minimal crown, but it is cute and she seems to love to have fun with hats
ReplyDeleteSophie and Zara both look fantastic - pretty blue dresses that are a good color on them with lovely coordinating hats. Catherine looks appropriate, but I do not like the flipped up shape of her hat in the back, nor do I like these faux skirt-suit dresses from Self Portrait she seems to favor, although this one is an improvement over the one she has with the gauzy looking skirt. I might like this one slightly better with a thin black belt, black shoes, and black purse, as shown on the model, and without the large flower embellishment. I did smile at the pic where she is surrounded by women also wearing white with black polka dots.

I love Kate's outfit and love her hat even more. Both the outfit and the hat speak to a simpler style even though they completely fit the formally respectful requirement of her role. I especially like her hat because it is different, it is smaller than her usual brimmed styles, and I like the up-turned back part of it. She looks accessible like any of her guests, instead of someone on a pedestal.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunatley I don't care at all for Sophie's hat (too much frou-frou) though it complements the simplicity of her dress, and don't like Zara's dress either (that colour + satin give me prom dress vibes, and there's too much large appliqué), unsuitable as a choice for a garden party.

Prince Edward is best dressed. POW is fine. I thought this was a separate dress until I scrolled down. I would have liked a polka dot dress much better or the top with a solid black skirt. The skirt length on the model does look better but still not great. The hat doesn't work with the outfit for me. DOE I didn't like the look at first glance. Looking at the model it looks better not great but better. I don't like it but it's Sophie. The hat I actually like. I rarely like anything Zara wears. The hat is awful but the dress is okay. I'm more concerned about her almost touching the food. Kind of gross. If she touched it I hope she ate it. It's rare you get a really good picture of the food though. I've only seen a couple up close. I think I watched a documentary about the preparation for the garden parties before.
ReplyDeleteDès la première photo, mon regard s’est attardé sur le look de la princesse de Galles qui est superbe dont en particulier son nouveau et élégant petit chapeau !
ReplyDeleteI like Catherine’s dress, the square neck and the peplum with gives her a nice shape. Sophie is lovely in blue and the length is just fine.Zara what a treat the dress looks great. Prince Edward impeccably dressed. William looks okay, but ever he has in his pockets should not be there, phone, wallett?
ReplyDeleteZara is the clear winner here. The color and cut suits her perfectly.
ReplyDeletePoW - This outfit does nothing for her. If anything it completely washes her out. She looks well in bold colors. I hope she re thinks her make-up choices, what looked lovely maybe ten years ago doesn’t work now, and can age. Again, she needs color rather in blush or lipstick.
DoE - Another unnecessary long dress. If it had sat just over the knee it would have been a far better look. The hat doesn't match the dress. She needed a pillar box style hat. This hat seems to sit awkwardly on her head.
I agree with all your comments,
DeleteI usually think Catherine’s makeup looks good, taking into account she likely applies more than the average woman would since people may be seeing her from a distance, but her eye makeup does look extremely heavy here. Maybe the shade from her hat is making it look heavier than usual.

Catherine - absolutely beautiful and regal!
ReplyDeleteSophie also looks very good. I agree that Zara's dress resembles a "prom dress", like someone wrote. The gentlemen all are handsome and elegant.
Zara stands out and not in a good way. Don't like the dress and hate the hat. Sophie is doing Sophie. I don't like it but it's appropriate and her style. It looks a bit better on the model. I like her hat but I don't know if I would have chosen it with this dress. I would have done the dreaded matchy matchy which so many people hate. PoW well I like the hat, like the skirt, and like the top. Don't like them together. Black shoes would have gone better. Prince Edward is well dressed, William looks fine.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of Self Portrait, but the Princess looks lovely. I don't like the color of her accessories. Her 3 row pearl bracelet and Bahrain pearl earrings look wonderful timeless and classic.
ReplyDeleteSophie looks pretty in this shade of blue, very becoming. I don't like her choice of jewellery but its nice to see her wearing some.
How wonderful to see Zara make an appearance here, she looks happy and engaging. Her earrings are sweet. I don't like this dress, its the style and design that doesn't appeal to me, regardless of my tastes she looks lovely.
I think Zara’s dress would look better with different or no sleeves.
ReplyDeleteNice look for the RL.The PoW looks stunning also like Zara's dress lovely. Sophies dress in pale blue very nice. Hope everyone had fun at the Garden party.
