On May 20, 2026, King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia visited the exhibition “Gold! Together for Sweden for 50 Years” in the State Apartments at the Royal Palace. The exhibition features a historical retrospective of photographs, wedding gifts, clothing, and objects reflecting the King and Queen’s wedding in 1976 and five decades of shared history.
Queen Silvia’s iconic wedding dress, the King’s admiral’s uniform with his insignia, and the bridesmaids’ dresses are included in the display. The Queen’s engagement dress is also on display for the first time. The commemorative exhibition “Gold!” will be open to visitors of the Royal Palace from May 21 until October 11.

ردحذف50 years already. O my, how time flies. I do so remember the times between the Summer Olympics 1972 (yes, the tragedy, too) when they first met and we all in Germany couldn't wait for the outcome of that romance, and the announcing of their engagement. Which had to wait because in the meantime King Gustaf VI Adolf had died and the new king, Carl XVI Gustaf, came to the throne, and had to settle into that new position. But the wedding eventually came, perhaps just a bit later than at first anticipated. We watched on telly, in awe of all the royal splendour, and admired the beaming, but also quite shy, bride in her very simple Dior gown, topped with the breathtakingly gorgeous Cameo Tiara, walking down the aisle with her king, who looked very dashing in his gala uniform. It doesn't seem that long ago. But alas, here we are - 50 years on. Congrats to the Swedish King and Queen.

The king & queen look wonderful together. Memories... hard to believe it's been 50 years. I remember the wedding & began following the Swedish royal family, which wasn't easy like it is nowadays - we had to buy magazines lol. Then along came the 3 children & we watched them grow up. Now the children have children. ~~Ruthie
