Mary has a grey suit with a blue blouse. It’s lovely and works for spring. She is also not doubt really really sad about her Dad, and I hope she can privately go down to be with her family.

Does she? Here she is in grey and a beautiful blue. We don’t often see her in black. But if we did … would it be too much?

  6. I wish Mary would have worn a more colourful or printed top inside her blazer.
The matching top does nothing to elevate the pantsuit. Some bold jewelry would
    have also helped.

Colour is not appropriate at this time. She is dressed for mourning. Her clothes are colourful in normal times.

  9. I read Queen Mary was able to see her father on her last trip to
Australia in March. I know that must be a comfort for her. I also understand there will be a memorial service in the near future that she will be able to attend as well. King Frederick really admired Mr. Donaldson, I remember at the wedding of the couple how he kept praising her Father!

How marvelous to see Queen Margrethe! Happy Birthday to this wonderful lady. It is so nice that her sister, Queen Anne Marie, has been able to join her to celebrate. I fully expected King Frederik to attend this day's celebration but was unsure Queen Mary would attend due to her father's recent death. She looks lovely in her beautifully tailored suit.

  11. Queen Mary is in mourning, her outfit reflects this. I feel she looks well groomed, and elegant. Her pantsuit fits well and perfect for her at this time. I do love the deep Navy blue silk blouse, this is lovely. She looks dignified, graceful and elegant.
Normally the Queen wears a brooch and jewellery, I can fully understand, respect and feel where she is emotionally right now. She is doing the best she can by, even being present. Thinking of her right now. It's always very difficult to lose a parent, considering the distance, especially currently, she would have the memories of seeing her father last month, which was wonderful she was able to.

I forgot it myself. There are so many (young) death people these days in Lebanon, Iran, a.o. countries in the middle east, that one forget about an old man that died at home peacefully surrounded by his family.

@Anonymous 14:17, you could have stopped your comment at the last sentence. "an old man that died at home peacefully surrounded by his family" is still someone's loved one. That is quite an insensitive thing to say.

Queen Mary in mourning colours, Queen Annemarie in half mourning, Queen Margrethe in the colours of the Dannebrog🇩🇰, interesting solution for this situation, certainly in line with protocol.

Tatler wrote an entire article devoted to Queen Mary's NAVY suit. As tho it's a real scene stealer that she wore navy instead of black during her mourning period. Shocking to someone I suppose but it is 2026. I would guess, black, gray, navy, purple, forest green, burgundy, just about any deep dark colors would be 'appropiate' for mourning in 2026.

I've never liked queen Margaret. If you look at the video, she admonishes Queen Mary for petting her do, saying there's no time to do that now. After she herself had petted the dog.

I read about that in my regular newspaper. The dog was coming to Queen Mary to say hello like he/she is used to, but Queen Margrethe said to Queen Mary it was not the time and place to pet the dog. Queen Mary immediately stood right up and didn't touch the dog.
I think it must not always be easy to live together with a former queen who is you mother in law at the same time.

    2. Agreed! I try to respect this as a fashion blog, but this time I have to make an exception: Queen Margrethe’s behavior was unacceptable. To admonish her daughter-in-law and the current Queen of Denmark, in such a public way, over a relatively minor issue, paints a picture of a rigid and uncaring woman. Queen Mary, who lost her father less than a week ago, made a public appearance to honor her mother-in-law‘s birthday. Now, that is class!

Totally agree!! This comment was rude and uncalled for since it was a fine time to pet a dog...unless you are jealous that your dog liked someone else. I do not care what title you have, just be kind, especially to someone whose father just died recently.

La reine Mary étant en deuil de son père, il est normal qu'elle porte un vêtement de couleur fondée. Par contre je suis choquée que sa belle-mère ait choisi une jupe....rouge! et ce Par respect pour Mary.

To wear red does not diminish respect for another in grief. In Australia it’s common to wear any colour to a funeral. I doubt Mary would even think about this.

Maybe Queen Mary doesn't care about how Queen Margrethe is dressed, but I think she did care about the way she was admonished by her mother in law. One can see that Queen Mary looked sad. Her mother in law could have shown more respect for the fact that her daughter in law was still in mourning for her father. And King Frederik seemed to smile with everything his mother said. I wonder if she is still the queen behind closed doors and that Frederik has to do what his mother tells him to do. I always thought she was not a friendly woman and that her smile is fake. I cannot stop to think how she took away the titles of her grandchildren (children of Prince Joachim).
