On April 30, 2026, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium officially opened the 37th edition of Floraliën, the international flower and plant festival in Ghent. The event takes place at the ICC, the Floraliënhal, and the Kuipke. With the theme “Connecting,” Floraliën highlights the unique power of flowers and plants in bringing people together and strengthening their connection with the environment.
During their visit, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde met with various exhibitors. At the end of the visit, the Queen named the “Queen Mathilde of Belgium Azalea,” a new variety of Ghent azalea from the Drieghe Azalea nursery. For the occasion, Queen Mathilde wore a new floral-embroidered midi dress by Carolina Herrera.
