She would look so much better with a shorter dress. Shoes and clutch don't match the color of the dress. For a formal event her hair could be done better.
I never understood why she doesn't see that the dresses on the model look better than on herself. The models are taller than the Duchess. The length of the dress they present is adapted to their length. The length of the Duchess' dresses are not adapted to her length. As long as she doesn't see it herself she will continue to ruin beautiful dresses. The choice of her accessories is often not good. In this case a pair of light beige or nude shoes would be better.

    1. I agree. I wish Sophie would shorten her dresses by a few inches. She certainly has access to a good seamstress or tailor. It's such an unflattering and matronly length.

"I never understood why she doesn't see that the dresses on the model look better than on herself" - OUCH. But then, isn't that the case for most of us, most of the time? And isn't it ok that Sophie enjoys making her own choices, even if they are different than you might make, were you an English woman, a royal, knowing that where you go, you'll have your photo taken and published globally? I think she's doing just fine, and if she likes long hems, then why not?

@Anon 17:04: "if she likes long hems, then why not?" in this case, there is no purpose to keep a fashion blog. Because if anyone likes and wears whatever, why not? :-)) All these women wear something they supposedly like, whoich does not mean they look their optimum in it. That's exactly our topic here.

This is such a gentle comment. Understanding that they are subjected to public scrutiny would make some people be more gentle with their comments in this blog.

I am not a royal and I am not English but I always take a good look in the mirror before I buy a new dress. Being petite myself I see immediately that some brands are not a good choice for me. There are brands where I live which sell very beautiful clothes. These clothes are designed for very tall ladies like Queen Maxima and Queen Mathilde. If you have to cut a big part of the fabric to make a dress shorter, often the dress doesn't fall good anymore. There are brands which are specialized in dresses for little ladies. These are called "petite sizes", which does not mean you have to be very skinny too. These dresses are available from size 38 until size 46 and sometimes even 48.
I also noticed that blouses or dresses with a bow under the chin are worn very often these days by royal ladies like Queen Letizia, Queen Maxima, etc... I like it on somebody else instead on myself. My neck is rather short, so a bow under my chin is not a good idea for me .... Everybody is different and there are beautiful and less beautiful clothes on the market, but long day dresses, and a blouse with a bow (noeud lavallière) may look good on another lady but not on myself.
A pity there are a lot of women who don't know what suits them and what doesn't. When I read the other comments, there is more than one or two who are writing more or less the same about Duchess Sophie's outfit as I do. Anon. 10:25

    1. Anon 15:57 expresses a well thought out critique. I'm also petite and almost always factor in the cost of alterations to sleeves and length in my clothing costs because these small details make the difference in how one looks in an outfit. Individual choices of solids versus florals, etc. are perfectly fine. But the style and fit of an outfit should compliment the lady's silhouette. I like her cognac shoes, but I have matched the clutch to the shoe.

looks too shimmery, too long for a daytime event.
dark/black shoes would have been best !

I don't mind this dress per se but the ridiculously long length gives it a rather overall look.
The shoes imho are absolutely the wrong color.
Another look which makes me think that Sophie doesn't have a stylist.

Agree. Cannot understand why she always has to wear such long dresses. Shoes and handbags should always match. The chosen colour too does not suit the dress

Yes Sophie is a gem, no doubt. But on topic: the length of this dress brings it and her it dressing gown country. Which is a pity because the dress could be good. The shoes are an insult for this dress. - I like her hair this way much better than the long girlie style.

This blue color on Sophie is great. The style is not very flattering, though, with the neck bow and bunched looking waist. Her shoe and clutch color choices do
not coordinate well with each other or the dress

@13:27- the idea that shoes and handbags should always match is very outdated. Tan goes with almost every colour particularly the blue spectrum, her handbag tones in with the dress. However, the dress does not seem to fit.The shoulder is too long, the models ' seems to have shoulder pads giving some structure. Whatever is happening at the waist is messy. I don't mind the length,it is her preference and usual in the UK in spring and summer, although I would have worn shorter. The hair is perfectly acceptable!

  11. The BRF will really pull out all the stops for the 100th birthday of her late Majesty, QE II. Much, much to look forward to. However, I wish the DoE had paired this dress with shoes in a different colour. The cognac-coloured pumps do not match anything else she wore to that particular engagement, are even clashing with the handbag. And, as so often the case, the dress is a tad too long on her. Alas, it seems she mostly likes them in this length.

    1. As is so often the case, the dress is just too long to look good. I am going to return to my previous resolution and only look at outfits for the Duchess if Edinburgh from the knees up! If I do that, this outfit is a winner.

I like the colour it is very nice for her. I do find the shoulders are too wide for her size. As far as the length goes, she doesn’t need to wear hosiery, it does throw the proportion but still nice. I do like the pop of colour and style of shoe. Overall okay, and in person she would look lovely.

I thought this time ( exception) I don't mind the length of this dress this time. It's a flattering dress and the colour makes it wonderful.

This is almost a great dress, but the sleeves and skirt are too long. I don’t mind the cognac shoes but they’re not coordinated with the dress or handbag, so they stick out in a bad way.

We keep beating the same drum when it comes to Duchess Sophie. Dresses and skirts far too long. She’s engulfed in unnecessary amounts of layers of material. She’s been on this trend since 2018, so I doubt she’ll change her ways now.

  19. I love this dress on Sophie although the length is too long (typical with her dresses and skirts, unfortunately). Blue is one of the best colors for her as it brings out her eyes. This particular pattern with the navy and royal blue together is very pretty. The fabric and cut of the dress is very slimming but I really wish the Duchess would have the hemlines adjusted for her height. Below the new or just above the calf would be more flattering, not skimming the ankles. Overall I love the dress and clutch. The cognac-toned shoes add a pop of color but I think navy would’ve been best.

  20. Its quite noticeable, the Duchess has lost weight, not body shaming, my observation. The dress is lovely, nice color, but the length is too long, and I like longer styles. Her shoe color is a no doesn't blend well with her dress.
