On the occasion of International Women’s Day (8 March), the Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh hosted British model Ellie Goldstein and her Strictly Come Dancing partner Vito Coppola at St James's Palace in London.
In August 2025, Ellie was announced as a contestant on the twenty-third series of Strictly Come Dancing, partnering with Vito Coppola and making it through to the sixth week before being eliminated in the dance-off.
Ellie Jade Goldstein (born 2001) is an English model and actress. She was the first model with Down syndrome to appear on the cover of Vogue and in a campaign for Gucci. In 2025, she joined the cast of the Malory Towers as Nancy Maher and received a nomination for a Children's and Family Emmy Awards for her performance.
The Royal Mencap Society is a charity based in the United Kingdom that supports people with learning disabilities. In 1986, Elizabeth II became the charity’s patron, and in 2004 the Countess of Wessex—later the Duchess of Edinburgh—became Mencap’s patron. For the occasion, the Duchess wore a red “Yahvi” dress by Beulah London.

ردحذفI think Sophie buys dresses off the rack and they are simply longer for her height. She is reportedly just 165cm, whereas the models the dresses are fitted to are likely 175+cm; and then, the models are thinner than the average woman so logically Sophie takes a size that fits her body, and that results in a longer hem. She looks beautiful in this red softly constructed dress.

how and why many of her dresses seem too long.
It's about time clothing labels realise that the average woman
is not as tall as their models.

Thanks Cate. I’m a little tired of people chastising Sophie for long hems without considering the model / real woman differences from which that so many of us suffer… and her own preferences too.
حذفWell, Sophie receives the criticism because she, as an official representative of the Crown, is therefore held to a higher standard than most. She has both the resources and the time to at the very least, make the slightest effort at customizing her clothing for a better fit. If she did it during her Fashion Renaissance in 2010-2012, she can surely do it now. Even non-working members of the family take the time and care to do so (ex. Zara Tindall). And so, I find the criticism to be warranted.

Like Cate, I am similar age and height to Duchess Sophie’s 165cm is above average height for women (in the UK anyway). I find that dresses tend to be very long at the moment so I have my dresses shortened. Surely the Duchess could do the same. In any event, this is a beautiful dress which looks lovely on her and the shoes are great too

ردحذفBeautiful stunning red on Sophie. I’m a firm believer that there’s a red shade for all of us but it’s not often we find the exact one. I find the lines of the dress just beautiful for Sophie and this occasion. Finding it very cute to see Ellie’s foot tucked up under her on the beautiful couch and guess she must have felt quite at ease there to do that.

Ellie Goldstein ist sichtlich stolz und hat sehr viel Freude, sie sieht sehr gut aus, die Haare wunderschön und ihre natürliche Art schenkt uns so wundervolle Bilder. Es war sicher ein unvergesslicher Termin für alle Beteiligten. Wie schön von Sophie, der Herzogin von Edinburgh, in ihrem Kleid sieht sie wie immer atemberaubend wunderschön aus. ردحذفThe dress would be even more beautiful if it was shortened to the length the model shows. The length is important for the proportions provided by the specific design, Sophie does not seem to consider this.
