Princess Laurentien of the Netherlands visited Calvin University in West Michigan on the occasion of its 150th anniversary. Her visit began at Heritage Hall, which houses one of the largest collections documenting migration from the Netherlands to the United States. Princess Laurentien then planted a red oak tree in front of the DeWit Mansion, near the spot where the Queen of the Netherlands had planted a tree years earlier.
The university was founded by the Christian Reformed Church just 19 years after the denomination had been established by Dutch Calvinist settlers from the Netherlands. In the 1840s, Calvinist immigrants seeking greater religious freedom migrated to West Michigan. As of 2010, 5.1% of Michiganders were of Dutch descent.

Well, it wouldn't be Laurentien without the huge earrings :) especially worn with the large black resin brooch at her neckline (visible in pics by others) -- plus the belt with the triple gold buckles and plus the huge black resin ring. It's all a bit much for my taste. Though I must say her signature hairstyle looks as stylish as it always has.
ReplyDeleteThe pale blue outfit is an odd pairing: a formal dressy blouse under a lounge-wear-like fleecy vest, over what looks like textured linen beach pants. This combination makes no sense to me.
However I very much like the wool cape/coat she wore outdoors - it's a lovely sleek shape and a very stylish for winter. Lyra
J’aime le naturel de la princesse autant dans sa façon de se
ReplyDeletevêtir que de se coiffer ; j’aimerais la voi
I always love to see photos of the princess. Her smile makes me smile and I love to see her fashion choices. I like both outfits, but prefer the navy and coral outfit due to the cut and colors. On the other outfit, the light blue fabric looks messy and the shoulders are too wide, but the colors still are flattering. Her coat has a great cut and structure (love the collar) that seems to be the perfect choice to stay warm in the flurries while digging in dirt. I’m sure her visit was a wonderful experience for those at the university.
ReplyDeleteLaurentien seems like a great person who never spoils any fun, and she always is kind. Her fashion choices are not for me, but she clearly feels good in it. However, looking at her earrings and accessories hurts my eyes: they are big, theatrical, exaggerated. I noticed that her sister-in-law Queen Maxima also likes similar mega-large and striking pieces. So I don't know, is this specifically typical jewelry for this family? Or maybe the ugliest (from my point of view) jewelry accessories in Europe are sold in Netherland.

Did you really think these synthetic and resin jewelry is only sold and worn in The Netherlands ?
DeleteThere is also a difference with the jewelry Queen Maxima wears. Queen Maxima sometimes wear modern earrings but the rest of her jewelry is classic (gold, diamonds, gemstones,...) or she wears sometimes a modern necklace made of natural materials but her rings and bracelets are valuable pieces of classic jewelry.
@17:34- I agree with your comment. In pics 1&2 I think she just looks a mess, nothing in the way of style can be salvaged from that outfit or those earrings. The second suit is too large, too long, bell bottom too bell!
ReplyDeleteNice to see her again She looks good.

She has such an eclectic style, not to my taste. The blue is a nice colour for her. She certainly brings interesting clothes from her shop.
ReplyDeleteIt is not "her" shop. She runs a 2nd hand shop (of rather expensive clothes) together with her eldest daughter.
DeleteI like her in the light blue 2 piece. Wne can considered it as too wide, but it is still fashion and Laurentien who is dressing herself young . Another structured fabric this would have been. Princess Laurentien's big synthetic earrings and other jewelery she is wearing since a longtime aez a bit her trade mark.
