The Royal Household of Denmark announced in a press release that Princess Isabella of Denmark will undertake her military service after completing her upper secondary education. Princess Isabella will begin 11 months of service in August at the Guard Hussar Regiment in Slagelse. Princess Isabella continues her upper secondary education at Øregård Gymnasium, where her father, Frederik, and her uncle, Joachim, were also educated.
The defence agreement for 2024–2033 stipulates that the length of conscription will be extended from four to 11 months. The period will consist of five months of basic training and six months of operational service. Crown Prince Christian of Denmark also completed his military service at the Guard Hussar Barracks in Slagelse.

Peu importe les photos, Isabelle est une très belle jeune fille !
ReplyDeleteGreat, I’m really pleased to hear that; she’s doing her military service just like all other Danish women. This sets her apart from her two cousins, Nikolaj and Felix, who are certainly very handsome, but both dropped out of their four-month basic military service and are now enjoying life. I’m convinced that this was a decisive factor in the decision made by their grandmother, Queen Margrethe II, back then: anyone who does nothing for their country, Denmark, should not be a prince of Denmark. The fact that no one else, apart from me, has ever noticed this still amazes me to this day.
ReplyDeleteThank you for that information I was not aware the boys did this, so it does shed light for the queens decision.

DeleteVery perceptive observation! 👑 Maja
It wasn't that I didn't notice; this is the first I'm hearing about it. Thanks for that bit of info. It is interesting and a very good point.
DeleteAnon at 12:11 where can we read this information you gave us about Queen Margarethe's decision? You seem to be very sure about this issue, but as you say no one else has noticed it.
DeleteThen how about Henry and Athena? Why were their titles taken away even though their military service is still ahead of them. Facts please, not assumptions.
@Zucchina, I couldn’t agree with you more.
DeleteI like this role modeling - even the girls are in the military for a bit.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful young lady
ReplyDeleteLovely photos, especially the last one. Isabella and her family must have been thrilled with this beautiful formal photo of the Princess taken last year (though to my eyes, the mobile phone is a rather incongruous accessory LOL).
ReplyDeleteOne thing I like about the royals of all countries is that we never see them holding (or using) their phone while they are at a public engagement. It seems to be an unwritten rule which they all follow. I like it; I think it conveys that when on duty, royals are giving 100% attention to the people they are with. Lyra
This photo was not part of the official photo series (https://www.newmyroyals.com/2025/04/official-gala-portraits-of-princess.html). This one was made the same time, but behind the scenes: https://www.newmyroyals.com/2025/04/princess-isabella-shares-photo-in-her.html .
DeleteShe wasn’t on duty so I am ok with the phone. It is the most delightful photo, such a natural look
DeleteI am always going to applaud the royals when they actively take part in military service. Isabella is 2nd in line, so there’s no expectation for her to take part, so it makes it all the more admirable that she is doing it.
ReplyDeleteLowri.
Oh wow… so PROUD of you Princess Isabella🌷
ReplyDeleteThere were several "official" photos taken of her in the tiara but every one always seems to choose the one photo her mother took during a break when she was checking her phone. Some news outlets evern seem to think *this* is the official photo and it's not. LOL.
ReplyDeleteHow marvelous, Military training. Its so admirable she is participating, stronger and tougher! She has got this! I love it!
ReplyDeleteYes, she has got this, how marvellous that P.Isabella is serving her country this way!
DeleteLots of respect for her and for all those participating in the military training.
P. the original. 09.33 Yes, agree wholeheartedly. She has such a lovely demeanor, my impression I have when I have seen her. Always very pleasant. Yes, much respect to them all.
DeleteHow wonderful of her to choose the Military and not fashion shows and parties. I must say she has character and love of Country. Congratulations to the Pss. If someone can do this it is her.

Well I believe it is compulsory, but still she will do well

DeleteI read on another forum from a Dane who’s particularly knowledgeable about the military, that Isabella enlisted on a voluntary basis. The law making military service mandatory for men and women over 18 only came into effect on July 1, 2025, whereas the Princess had already turned 18 well before that.
It’s to her credit that she’s setting an example. And given the recent events in which Denmark’s territorial integrity has come under threat, this choice is far from insignificant - for young Danish citizens, both men and women, and all the more so for a princess who is third in line to the throne.
MARIE
She can still do both. I would assume they are allowed at a day or two or so off at some point.
DeleteShe looks just like Frederick…beautiful young woman!
ReplyDeleteDanish dynamite!
ReplyDeleteLast picture which Isabella is holding her phone was taken by her mum Queen Mary is the best picture:
ReplyDeleteSo much ❤️ in her eyes and smile
