The President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu are making a two-day state visit to the United Kingdom as guests of King Charles III. The Prince and Princess of Wales received the President of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu at the Fairmont Windsor Park hotel in Englefield Green.
King Charles III and Queen Camilla welcomed the President of Nigeria and the First Lady ahead of a carriage procession to Windsor Castle. Queen Camilla wore a pink wool crepe dress by Fiona Clare. The Queen also wore the late Queen’s Cartier flower clip brooches. The Princess of Wales wore a frock coat dress by young British-Nigerian fashion designer Tolu Coker. In the evening, the King and Queen will host a State Banquet.

I can understand Catherine’s decision to wear a coat dress by a British-Nigerian designer, but I don’t think this coat dress looks very good. It kind of gives me a “hotel uniform” vibe with the gray color and white trim. I love her shoes, though. Camilla’s dress is very, very pink. It reminds me of cotton candy. Maybe a bit much. The diamond clips are gorgeous.

I don’t see the uniform vibe you see! I think Catherine looks absolutely splendid. The lady with the gold wrapped hair on the other hand is too too much. For me her outfit and display of wealth is completely tasteless.
DeleteColu Coker is a young British-Nigerian fashion designer, textile designer and illustrator based in London.

Hotel uniform or air hostess was the phrase that came to my mind too. I don’t know if it’s the grey colour or the white stripes. I can’t think when the Princess last wore a plain grey outfit but it’s maybe not the best choice for her. Queen Camilla looks good in pink
DeleteMore air hostess to me, but hotel uniform also works. Uninspired choice, in my opinion. I am sure this isn’t the only option from Nigerian designers available to her.
DeleteCamilla’s outfit is too pink, bright and it doesn’t suit her. You don’t see the woman, you see the outfit (and not in a pleasant way). Surprised she went for this shade, uncharacteristically bad.

I see it and still like it. I hate the hat. Camilla's outfit is one of her worse. I like the Nigerian first lady's outfit and the burgundy and gold outfit.
DeleteI think it is a draw between ... Queen Camilla and the First Lady of Nigeria! The coatdress is just too strict in my opinion, even if there is a detail in the back that might have made it interesting. Just too much grey.
ReplyDeleteAlthough the D.o C's suit is beautifully tailored etc. Ithink it is too cluttered with too many different details. I think the whole outfit looks rather like an air hostess uniform of the 1950's . I do not think that icecream pink suits Queen Camilla either. She looks much better in white or somewhat stronger colours. Perhaps if the coat had a contrasting colour for the dress/blouse and hat the whole effect might have been better.
ReplyDeleteAgree. Hostess uniform was my first thought
DeleteAnd who, pray tell, might the D.o C be?
DeleteDear DSC, it’s pretty clear that person referred to as D of C is now P of W! As the Wales’s continue to hold the Cambridge titles, it’s perfectly correct to use D of C
Delete@ Anonymous 14:57
DeleteYou said that P.Catherine's outfit is reminiscent of an air hostess uniform and others detected this same vibe in her coatdress, wow, that's just great, thank you!!!
One of the best compliments the Princess of Wales could have ever got , it means top marks for her, given that flight attendants have to fulfil the stricted requirements of beauty, class and demeanor (and I am , most modestly, one of them!).☺️
* the strictest requirements
Deleteto Anon00:27: While it might be somewhat "correct" to say Duchess of Cambridge (and Cornwall, and Rothesay!), the main form of address will always be the highest ranking title. In that case, The Princess of Wales.
DeleteThe title police.😏
DeleteA very elegant outfit on the Princess. I would have preferred a soft blue. I like her in stronger colours. She still looks gorgeous today.
ReplyDeleteblue would have been great but more 'air stewardess' vibe people are talking about
DeleteCatherine wears an interesting outfit: On the one hand it looks beautifully formal and elegant; on the other hand, a bit like a flight attendant. Either way, she rocks both looks, and I'm glad that she shortened the skirt length but would have preferred it slightly more shorter. I think the designer is Nigerian? I like her best wearing these style of hats, which includes the green one she wore yesterday.
ReplyDeleteCamilla looks nice in pink, but her coat and dress look pretty plain and simple.
I like the copper and emerald colour combination of the Nigerian first lady.

I think Camilla can wear almost any colour she fancies, I don't know any reason why she should avoid this very light shade of pink with this very simple coat dress without any additional frills (speaking about frills, maybe I would have ditched them on the hat too). Catherine's coat dress has a very strict, stringent design with hard lines really everywhere, I don't like it on her. She definitely could profit from a bit of fabric movement and softer lines, but with this kind of slimmest of slim design this is no option. I quite dislike it.
ReplyDeleteWow, the Royal ladies are looking jazzy today. Catherine's outfit look a bit like an air stewardess. Nothing wrong with that though.
ReplyDeleteLove the Queen in pink and especially love the tonal details on the coat and griege velvet shoes. I really like the shape and Interesting details on the hat too.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful emerald dress and gold wrap/headpiece on the First Lady. Really gorgeous fabrics.
I personally don’t like anything about the outfit on the POW. The colors are dull, the design is very dated and it’s too long.
Wow, wow, both woman très royale!!!
ReplyDeleteLovely prowdful guests!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLovely prowdful guests!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIts tiara time for the british royal family tonight !
ReplyDeleteBeaucoup d’élégance.chez Kate dans le style de cette robe-manteau mais il me semble que des couleurs plus vives auraient mieux convenu !
ReplyDeleteFlight attendant vibe at first glance, though it is a very classic with a nice soft colour gray. I am not a fan of double breasted coats and jackets other than the buttons add interest. I like her handbag and shoes. Hat is cute
ReplyDeleteEt Camilla qui reporte le sac Lady Dior...sac mythique qu'elle ne devrait pas porter.
ReplyDeleteChère EVA, Pourquoi Pas?

Well it has been said already : Princess Catherine looks like a flight attendant. What I really doesn't like is the corset look in the back of the coat dress. Now that she is so thin, she could wear more wide clothes like the Dior's 1950 style.
ReplyDeleteQueen Camilla's pink ensemble looks lovely but it is a bit too early in the season for such a color and fabric. Although we see the sun sometimes during the whole day, it is not warm enough. There is a cold wind outside. Her accessories are not well chosen either. Although beautiful on itself the taupe shoes are not going well together with the light pink of her clothes. The stockings are too dark and do not match the pink coat. She should replace them by natural looking ones. She is wearing a light beige handbag and lighter beige gloves. These colors are well chosen to match her outfit. The Nigerian ladies are dressed up like for an evening gala.
I'd prefer King Charles in a beautiful normal suit as well as CP William.
Yes, I think garments with a little more volume would be great on Catherine.
DeleteI thought Kate's coatdress was by Catherine Walker. It has that kind of a look. The fit and length are perfect and the contrasting white on the collar and lapels uplifts the grey making it vibrant instead of dull. I also like the cute little hat. The designer added a unique feature at the back with the gathered waistline along with the slit that looks like it has a different fabric that appears with movement. Kate looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteSorry Katherine but that hat is horrible. Truly horrible. The proportions between the tiny hat and the long coat don't work.
ReplyDeleteCindi
Not your taste Cindi?! It is my taste: I absolutely love this outfit, proportions, details, colour, the lot. I think she got it 100% and looks really beautiful.
DeleteThe only fact here is, that you don't like it (me neither). But: Is everything that we don't like "horrible"? How would you take it when someone said "horrible" about your outfit that you evidently wear because it was not horrible for you?
DeleteI think just one row of buttons would have been better. The pocket flaps could have been moved to her hips, to give her and the coat dress some shape. As it stands it looks off balance, almost hanging on her rather than fitting her.The finer details are missing with Catherine’s choices. She’s fine in downtime clothes, but for me she struggles to make an outfit come to life. Let’s see what tonight’s dinner brings.
ReplyDeleteLowri.
Hi Lowri, love your comments due to your clear explanations about your thoughts - although I often disagree with your preferences, just because I’m a different person and not because you’re wrong of course. I think that Catherine absolutely nails the finer details of her outfits, and every single time!
DeleteThe First Lady is splendid!
ReplyDeleteKate's outfit looks terrible, yes uniform style, what was she thinking, hat makes it look comical.William looks good.Camilla is bright and cheery. (Tara)
ReplyDeleteThe first lady looks stunning, I just love her gown, its quite beautiful. Love the pattern of the fabric. The colors are a clever choice, her turban and wrap are perfectly match to the same color of her gown. Her gold necklace looks lovely, I'm thinking the stone is emerald, very appealing.
ReplyDeleteThe two ladies in the 3rd last photo look stunning, gorgeous outfits, beautiful ladies.
Catherine looks splendid. This coat has an interesting back feature, a corset at the back, which I love, its so unique and different, I have never seen this in a coat before at the back. I love unusual, regardless, it looked amazing. I like the white trim of the coat, the grey color appeals to me, I'm thinking the muted color, to keep subtleness, I could be wrong. I like the style/design of this coat. The white bow on the repeat wear hat is a clever choice, highlighting the trim of the coat and adding a bit of difference to this hat, which is perfectly placed. The grey shoes are a lovely shade, the black bag(gorgeous) black in color, which I love the contrast. The pearl and diamond earrings are favorites of mine, they are so elegant, beautiful jewels.
The Queen looks lovely, but the pink shade here to me is quite glaring.
I think all of the ladies are looking marvelous! I happen to like the coat dress by Tolu Coker that Catherine is wearing--I think it is very elegant and the details on the back are a unique and interesting detail. I don't think it looks like a uniform as it is too elegant but I can see why others are saying that. To me that appearance might be related to the style of her hat. While I like the hat--and Catherine looks beautiful in it--I think a hat in the style of the one she wore to the Commonwealth Day Service would have given the coat dress a completely different look. Queen Camilla is absolutely lovely in her pink ensemble--the color is very complimentary to her complexion. Perhaps had the weather been warmer we might have seen her gorgeous pink topaz jewelry. I like the satin trim on her coat--it adds a bit of dash. The Nigerian First Lady is wearing a gorgeous outfit!--that dress is a beautiful shade of green. The other 2 ladies who are in the second to last photo are stunning and as elegant as the First Lady.

I absolutely agree with the comments made by @ 04:22 and @ Ava Pittman - considered and detailed. Then @ Tara - I was waiting for the nagative comment, never fails, you really don`t like the Princess of Wales. Negative comments are acceptable if justified with an explanation/recommendation, otherwise immaturity shines through.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how Kate always manage to look outdated. The coat is great, why did she have to wear her hair and an headpiece like this.
