Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako Receive the Chief Justice of Australia

Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako of Japan held separate meetings at the Imperial Palace with Speaker of the Senate of Canada Raymonde Gagné and Chief Justice of Australia Stephen Gageler.

On Wednesday, 4 March 2026, Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako attended two events at the Imperial Palace. First, they received Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia Stephen Gageler and his wife, Carla Federica Gageler. During the meeting, the Emperor spoke about his memories of visiting Australia in 1974 on his first trip abroad.

Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako then received Speaker of the Senate of Canada, and and Senator for Manitoba, Raymonde Gagné and her husband, Daniel Boudet, at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. Senator Raymonde Gagné is visiting Japan at the invitation of Masakazu Sekiguchi, President of the House of Councillors.
