On March 9, 2026, Charles III and Queen Camilla attended the annual Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey in London. The King and Queen were accompanied by the Prince and Princess of Wales, Princess Anne, Sir Timothy Laurence, and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester. Prince Albert II of Monaco also attended the ceremony.
The Commonwealth Day Service at Westminster Abbey has been held since 1972 and celebrates the people and cultures of the Commonwealth nations. For the occasion, Queen Camilla wore a red crepe wool dress and coat by Fiona Clare, while the Princess of Wales wore a navy blue coat dress by Catherine Walker.
Catherine Walker Dress

Catherine looks adorable!
ReplyDeletePrincess Royal is chic and elegant.
Let's begin with the not-so-good, because all the rest is quite good (on Catherine): pointed shoulders, time to go away. But the coat is in every other respect wonderful, first, it is not the usual just-one-slim-coat-more, it has that beautiful side pleating, which lets the coat swing and float in movement. And then, lovely feature: the back gives the illusion of a two-piece suit, looks excellent. Princess Anne is fabulous, the hat is perfect on her, that the coat is a bit vintage, I don't mind at all - she looks first class in it. The D. of G is her very elegant self, I like that she took a scarf, if put on thoughtfully (which is a Yes in this case), it really elevates an otherwise simple coat. The Queen's hat is not my favourite, a bit lopsided and too high. And even if I have a lot of understanding for dark pantyhoses for elderly ladies with some degree of venous insufficiency (a somewhat thicker skin-coloured one does not look nice, the thickness shows), but with a red coat it is a bit too harsh. A grey one would do, even if it is a bit thinner.
ReplyDeleteActually, dark hose are worn by all ages, not only by the elderly, however, a lighter shade might have been more flattering. I find the Duchess of Gloucester‘s scarf and hat somewhat stuffy. The princess of Wales’s new look is wonderful, but her make up is too heavy and gives her face harsh

DeleteAggiungo che è una gioia vedere Catherine ❤️, ed ammiro molto la semplice eleganza della duchessa di Gloucester.
I think the global design of Prcss Catherine is flattering. Suggesting the removal of this or that is rarely a good solution imv, ie here the pointing shoulders. It is safer to accept them, or an entire different design is necessary.
DeleteI noticed in other pictures that the Queen is wearing a lovely black pair of shoes.
ReplyDeletePOW- I really liked this coat until I saw the pleats and shoulders still probably the best here. It’s pretty good. QC- It’s her. I hate those hats. I don’t find them cute or quirky on her, but do on others. Princess Anne- Like the color and the brooch. Duchess of Gloucester- I like the Duchess and tend to like her style very much. The coat and scarf are good. The hat has been worn 20 times but I love that. And ver nice purse. No Sophie.
ReplyDeleteThis is what the King’s slimmed down Monarchy looks like.
DeleteSophie was at the Paralympics.
DeleteI love the gorgeous sapphire blue colour of Kate's outfit. The design is also very original. I don't know if it's a dress or a two piece. It looks like a jacket of some sort over a pleated skirt. The hat is also smart looking and exquisite. The only thing I don't like is the pointy shoulders which look a bit severe. I would prefer a more rounded look. Camilla also looks fabulous in her coral outfit and nifty hat.
ReplyDeleteSandra you made me look again. I thought it was a coat dress but I am sure it is a jacket with a pleated skirt. Except for the shoulder area I think she looks very good.
DeleteReply to Sandra: if you look at Catherine Walker’s website: all coatdresses have pointed shoulders, so it is a trend apparently !
DeleteI like the coat dress. I think it gives Catherine a lovely shape. I don’t think a closed in hat suits, it cast a shade over the face. It makes it look like she has dark bags under her eyes.
ReplyDeletePA - Looks lovely in green.
QC - She suits red. The black is a little harsh. Maybe a neutral shoe would have made the outfit less harsh.
DoG - Always underrated elegance from Birgitte.
Puzzled as to why Prince Albert was there. Could it be Monaco is stepping up on the world stage.
Lowri.
I think perhaps you mean understated not underrated
DeleteWhy is not Prince Albert's wife Charlene with him?
ReplyDeleteNone of our business. Charlene has (and all royals have) solo appearances quite frequently too.
Delete20:46 I asked the same, silently - but then saw you were thinking similarly. He does seem to be frequently at events where one may normally expect his wife.
DeleteFair question.
DeleteCatherine is the Epitome of élégance! What a lovely coat. I think this kind of shoulders are necessary for Catherines very fragile figure to give it more volume.
ReplyDeleteAll ladies very stylish dressed.
Shoulder pads doesn't have to be pointy to give more volume.
DeleteI like Camilla’s bright red coat and the gorgeous diamond brooch. Her hat looks too tall, however. Catherine’s outfit and earrings are lovely, but I dislike her faux pearls immensely. With the real pearl necklaces available to her, I find it perplexing she chooses to wear fake pearls. The 5-strand is not attractive in my opinion.

I would have certainly thought her pearls were real, now you've ruined them for me! They look lovely anyway.
DeleteCamilla's hat looks ridiculous, Catherine wears these pearls because she wants to wear jewelry that anyone could buy.
DeleteAs I like Catherine's outfit very much and also her overall sofisticated appearance I dislike this pearl necklace - and not just with this outfit.
DeletePrincess Anne looks lovely in a well fitted outfit, no matter the vintage. The Duchess of Gloucester always has a youthful glow about her and a lovely casual hairstyle that never disappoints.
ReplyDeleteGreat look for the Royal Ladies. Catrine as usual the best dressed. Q Camilla looks very lovely in red.

The Princess of wales outfit is beautiful---coat, hat shoes jewellery.. All just perfect. I love what I can see of Princess Anne's outfit--the colour is great, and the hat is really flattering--might it be new???---but I would like to see a full length pic. I love red but I'm not sure that Queen Camilla doesn't look better in blues and greens. In any event, she could have done with lighter coloured tights on this occasion. I'm guessing that the red and blue combo was deliberately patriotic, with the Duchess of Gloucester joining the theme.
ReplyDeleteI do not like the pointy shoulders of the dark blue coat dress. Otherwise the coat dress is lovely. Today Catherine's make-up looks softer than usual. I prefer it this way. Camilla should have worn natural stockings instead of non transparent black ones. It doesn't look elegant with the red coat. The Duchess of Gloucester's red hat is looking very good with her hairstyle. A pity she is still wearing boots, unless it is very cold in Westminster Abbey and she wears them to keep her feet warm.
ReplyDeletePrince Albert's suit coat fits him strangely in the neck and shoulder areas. Was it poor tailoring or slouching on his part? Sleeve tops are bad, also. I think he needs to get after who makes his suits - poor workmanship!
ReplyDeleteNone of the royal men have tailors equivalent to the King of Spain.
DeleteThe Princess of Wales coatdress has interesting features, very flattering and attractive. The side pleats look lovely, its distinctive. The coatdress moves beautifully as she walked, nice swish happening. The color of the ensemble is sublime. Her accessory color was perfect. Love her hat, the jewel choices, I love. Very elegant.
ReplyDeleteThe Princess Royal looks lovely in this deep green ensemble, especially love the color. Her diamond brooch, perfectly placed, lovely addition.
The Duchess of Gloucester, looks great. Her coat looks good, the silk scarf adding an extra splash of color.
The Queen wears red well, it suits her. Love her black accessories. The diamond brooch is stunning, love this piece.
I miss Princess Charlene!
ReplyDeleteCamilla,Anne,Duchess of Gloucester look good.Kate looks a bit blah, monotones don't look great.Good to see Prince Albert,he is on a Royal visit to the U.K.(Tara)
Paloma.
Ow no. Kate in the old fashion coatdress again.,She looks twenty years older. Such a pitty
ReplyDeleteEveryone looks great. Had to see this on a monitor, 2 inch cellphone screens don't do the brooches justice. Like the paisley pin on Camilla. Anne's is nice, too. Christine
