On February 25, 2026, Queen Mary of Denmark attended the 30th anniversary celebration of the Danish Psychiatric Foundation (Psykiatrifonden) at Moltkes Palace in Copenhagen. The theme of the celebration was “The Elephant in the Room,” highlighting the importance of speaking openly about mental health. Queen Mary of Denmark has served as patron of the Danish Psychiatric Foundation since 2005.

Queen Mary delivered a speech at the anniversary event, which also featured the exhibition “The Elephant in the Room.” Thirty Danish artists each created their own original elephant sculpture for the exhibition, where the elephant serves both as a work of art and as a conversation starter. For the occasion, Queen Mary wore a crystal-embroidered pleated crepe midi dress by Red Valentino.

The dress has a great silhouette and the length always works. But the star of the show are those spectacular yellow Manolos….love the non-matching bold color! It’s very modern choice for a young Queen.

    1. I agree wholeheartedly. This plain dress just looks great. The shoes are just wonderful.

    4. 06:55, she looks young and reached the function rather recently. I remain on the fence about an opinion on the shoes.

Mary is, as always, very well turned out; but I am not a fan of this look. The striking yellow shoes (satin evening wear?) do not connect with anything else in her ensemble (e.g. earrings, bracelet, brooch) so they look like an afterthought -- or for a more formal occasion.
Then there is the frock. Mary has added a belt, which gives a skirt-and-top appearance, lovely in itself -- but in so doing, the separation of top and bottom has made the embellished Peter Pan collar, also lovely in itself, look like an later add-on -- like the shoes, out of place. Without the belt, as per the designer's photos, this frock might suit Camilla very well; but for Mary a belt always balances and enhances her silhouette.
I think the dress-plus-belt, finished with a simpler, plainer neckline and a necklace, would be perfect.

@Anon 00:38: "The striking yellow shoes ...do not connect with anything else in her ensemble" - have a proper look please at her handbag/clutch under her arm :-)). You see? She always combines these striking shoes excellently, sometimes they connect with something, like here, sometimes they just create a welcome contrast with a very simple outfit.

@Anon 00:38 again: also something else in yellow, besides the clutch: pink-yellow earrings https://www.instagram.com/p/DVMs1neE7YB/ . And who knows what colours the rhinestones on her Peter Pan collar are? :-) Mary is sublime.

00:38 here again. The problem with co-ordinating shoes solely to a bag and not the accessories is that if the event requires one to put the bag down - as this event does -- the effect is lost. Also, the yellow gemstones are too small and hidden by her hairstyle to connect these shoes for the viewer. Maxima and Mathilde have worn very attractive examples of contrasting shoe colour with outfit colour, so it can certainly be done, but I think it's more challenging to do well than it looks.

  5. This is a beautiful, elegant dress, I love the pleating features of the skirt. The bejeweled collar looks lovely, adding interest. The shoes are the most beautiful feature, they look gorgeous. Hair and makeup on point, lovely presentation.

I’m not a fan of the contrasting yellow shoe. Mary has worn them previously with an altered black lace Temperley gown, and on that occasion I thought it worked seamlessly. This dress has more of a daytime vibe, rather than evening, so the look feels a little off balance.
    Lowri.

  8. All it takes to jazz up a black outfit is a little bit of bling. Not too much. It adds so much interest. The embellished collar keeps this dress from being boring. I'm not sure about the shoes though.

Queen Mary looks fabulous here! Love the simple dress--the collar is great. But, those shoes!!! They make the whole outfit. They add a touch of color and a ton of pizzazz. Love this whole look.
