King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway are in Milan in connection with the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games. On February 9, 2026, the King and Queen visited the Norwegian national speed skating team at the Olympic Village, where they met athletes, support staff, and two medal winners. Norwegian speed skater Ragne Wiklund won the silver medal, while Norway’s Sander Eitrem claimed the gold medal in the men’s 5,000-metre speed skating event, setting a new Olympic record.

It seems that the Royal couple is a great support to the Athletes. Wonder if they will be there for the whole two weeks. The King and Queen look good and happy.

What great photos! Not too much on the fashion front but I do like Queen Sonja's suit--it is beautifully fitted. The Queen's natural warmth is so evident especially in photos 1 and 3. That 3rd photo is fabulous--the joy and fun of the moment is jumping right off my screen!

I like the Norwegian pullovers.
ReplyDeletethe Norwegian Olympic jumpers are made by Dale of Norway, the whole website is gorgeous. I bought one in a Norwegian store in Minnesota 20 years ago, it is fabulous but in Sydney I get to wear it maybe once every 2 years :(
DeleteGreat photos. The Royal couple are showing such wonderful support to the Athletes, marvelous.
ReplyDeleteSince watching "The Commoner" about Harald and Sonjas early relationship I just adore her. Kind and patient but feisty too. And fashionable always.

Tous les athlètes portent un chandail Dale of Norway. Josée.
ReplyDeleteThe Nordic sweaters are very nice, pullover style easy to wear.
ReplyDeleteI have no doubt Hakon and Mette-Merit were scheduled to support the athletes and the King and Queen had to step in at the last minute. It cannot be easy at their age (especially the King with limited mobility) and their dedication and enthusiasm are to be commended. The pink silk blouse goes beautifully with the charcoal grey suit on the Queen. Mette-Merit should be ashamed of herself and Hakon for supporting her instead of his parents.
ReplyDeleteThe king is a former participant in sailing.
DeleteMette Marit has a chronic disease serious enough to warrant consideration of organ transplant. We cannot know the pressures on her and the decisions she and Håkon therefore make. The Norwegian king and queen are sports lovers and no doubt loving the sport at the Olympics. They are no doubt accommodated extremely comfortably in Italy. I do not think it is for you to judge these people - nor to say they should feel shame.
Delete@Anon 09:39: A lot of people have serious diseases, with or without the consideration of whatever interventions. I hate when this is brought up as an excuse - for people who have first class medical care, best of the best that other people with the same condition can only dream of. So stop to bring up her condition. It has nothing to do with the fact that there were definitive signs that she could be a hazard for the royal family and she also proved to be one. Don't misunderstand me, I don't blame her, neither for her past, nor for her background, nor for her child, she could not change all that. But signs for being double cautious in her role were definitively there, so I blame both Haakon and her for being not cautious enough.
Delete10:13, I find your put down of my compassion very worrying. If someone is awaiting an organ transplant, I have compassion.
- Dorothe -
ReplyDeleteThey did not deserve Mette Marit!
ReplyDeleteShe did not deserve them
DeleteYou're right @07:52, especially in their old age. We understand she is unwell now, but, let's hope she plans to atone for her lies and involvement vis a vis Epstein.

ReplyDeleteGreat team sweaters!
ReplyDeleteIf you look at the calendar planned months go,for the royals, only the king, queen, crown prince were schedule to attend the Olympics. The king and queen enjoy attending the Olympics always have. It is not like they have to stand in line for the events. I like that they stay active and engaged for their country, in their areas of interest, outdoor sports.
ReplyDeleteWonderful King and Queen of Norway! Their warm presence is surely highly regarded and appreciated by all the athletes. Such a great support to them, especially at the King and the Queen’s age, they are still so active and engaged to anything of their country, very admirable. The pics are fun, friendly and warm, i love the last one, seems a good atmosphere 🙂
ReplyDeletei wish all the best to the crown prince Haakon, hope he will have the strength and spirit of his parents to also become a good King in the future.
