Princess Amalia Completes General Military Training and Is Promoted to Corporal

Queen Máxima attended the completion ceremony at the Ministry of Defence in Ermelo

On January 23, 2026, Princess Amalia completed the General Military Training (AMO) and was promoted to the rank of corporal. The training is part of the education programme the Princess is undertaking at Defensity College. Now that she has completed the AMO, the Princess will wear a military uniform when working with the Ministry of Defence.

Queen Máxima attended the completion ceremony at the Ministry of Defence in Ermelo. Previously, King Willem-Alexander appointed Princess Amalia to the reserve personnel of the Armed Forces. Princess Amalia performs her duties on an unpaid basis, and her study time is regarded as private. Defensity College aims to offer students a meaningful part-time job alongside their studies, while increasing visibility and strengthening the connection between the Armed Forces and society.

    Kudos to Amalia. I am impressed with how the current generation of crown princesses (or equivalent) across European royal families are undertaking military training. Well done to them for their commitment to their countries.
