King Carl XVI Gustaf will turn 80 on April 30, and the King and Queen Silvia will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on June 13. Today, the Swedish Royal Court announced two royal celebrations to be held in 2026 and, on this occasion, released new official portraits of the King and Queen. The portraits were taken by photographer Elisabeth Toll at Drottningholm Palace.
For the official portraits, Queen Silvia wore a floor-length green gown with lace detailing. She also wore the sash of the Order of the Seraphim, the diamond-set badge of the order and the diamond star, as well as a diamond-set agraffe with a miniature portrait of the King. In addition, the Queen wore the “Brazilian tiara.”

- Dorothe -
ReplyDeleteI agree in part - about the composition of the photos being rather busy. For me, the textured tapestries and the patterned floor cause that. Also, I cannot help but seeing distracting smiley faces in the yellow tapestry, both in the chair, and on the wall, especially in the first photo where the pattern ended up right next to Silvia´s head. (I´m starting to wonder whether I suffer from pareidolia, haha). Anyway, I still think that the royal couple is captured beautifully and I actually really like the green gown on Silvia. The only little quibble I have is that the tiara seems ever so slightly off-center.
DeleteVanessa, now that you said so, I can't unsee the smileys...
DeleteI’m of completely the opposite opinion Dorothe!! I think she looks absolutely stunningly beautiful in this marvellous tiara and gown. Stunning! The green gown is utterly gorgeous on her. Love everything about these photos including the very dapper King.
DeleteSylvia sieht gut aus - schönes Kleid, schöne Farbe. Schlank und top aussehend mit 81 oder 82 Jahren!! Macht es nach!!
DeleteDorothe ist eine KI. Ihre Beiträge ziemlich trollig.Niemand redet so! Sie hat aber ihr Ziel erreicht. Ich kommentiere...SOM
DeleteWell, the "smileys" you all see are actually three crowns (tre kronor), which are part of the Coat of Arms of the Swedish King (and the Monarchy). They just happen to look on that wallpaper/wall covering not as orderly as in the actual heraldic shield. The "Brazilian Tiara" is officially called the "Braganza Tiara", and it is the biggest piece of head adornment the Swedish Queen can pull out. I do like her green lace gown, too. The tiara is actually quite centered, but Queen Silvia holds her head slightly/lightly to one side, therefore it appears a bit askew.
DeleteSilvia - still a beauty!
ReplyDeleteAnd Carl Gustav can't smile.
I always say that. He is a real grumpy person
DeleteAlways a very beautiful woman!
DeleteHe does smile. He can smile. Not in these photos, but that’s ok.
DeleteResting king face
DeleteI lovb the gown and that she is wearing the Brazilian Tiara. I think is a nod to her background. CC
ReplyDeleteWow, these photos are wonderful of the King and Queen! She looks wonderful in green and it pairs beautifully with the light blue order sash. But the real stars are the stunning diamonds…the earrings and necklace are stunning, but the tiara is an absolute showstopper! As usual, the King is perfectly tailored and looking very regal.
ReplyDeleteWishing them many more years ahead!
I agree completely with everything you said Anon 19:21. A lovely royal couple.
DeleteAgree completely. Beautiful jewels and gown - elegant queen.
DeleteHet toont niet meer. Ze zijn te oud
ReplyDeleteThis comment is very nasty!!
DeleteOh 19:50, why be rude and mean?
DeleteCould you translate this into English? Most people don't understand Dutch - or whatever it is.

ReplyDeleteDet är dags att abdikera (!) och överlämna ”kronan” till nästa generation...

Verkligen inte!
DeleteIls sont très beaux ...pour leur âges en plus.
ReplyDeleteBien dit!
DeleteIt is a beautiful dress with just the right amount of lace. Love the natural look of her makeup, and the beautiful jewels. The king as always in a perfectly fitting suit. They portray a kind and regal company
ReplyDeleteThat should be couple..
DeleteBeautiful! Can’t wait to see Crown Princess Victoria wearing this crown!!
ReplyDeleteThe Queen is a beautiful woman, she is marvelous for her age. I love the color of her gown, gorgeous shade of green. Her choice of jewels, magnificent!
ReplyDeleteThe wallpaper in the background shows the Swedish coat of arms. The three crowns go back to around the year 1250.
ReplyDeleteSo very symbolic that the King and Queen are portrayed in front if said wallpaper.
