German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, accompanied by his wife, Elke Büdenbender, is currently in the UK for a State Visit as the guest of King Charles and Queen Camilla. On December 3, 2025, the Federal President and Ms. Büdenbender were greeted by The Prince and Princess of Wales at Heathrow Airport.
King Charles and Queen Camilla then formally welcomed the Federal President and the First Lady at the Royal Dais on Datchet Road, Windsor. The Federal President and Ms. Büdenbender later joined The King and Queen, along with The Prince and Princess of Wales, in a carriage procession to Windsor Castle.
Catherine and Camilla both look impeccable in their blues, dressed warmly while still looking elegant.

Where in the world are you chiming in from that boots would be considered wrong in this case? Boots are not just for warmth. These are fashion boots, worn to contribute to the overall appearance. Catherine's boots would not be a first choice to keep warm or dry, just to contribute to the overall look.

Today, it is considered bad form, as a rule, to not remove gloves when greeting people. You can see that Catherine has removed her gloves at the airport, where it must have been very cold. Times change with each generation. While it may not have been fashionable to wear boots in Queen Elizabeth's day, it is now. Different generations, different styles.
I agree that both blue coats look lovely. As far as the boots are concerned, it’s not the appropriateness that’s really the issue. It’s the smartness for a formal welcome ceremony. The fact that Queen Camilla’s boots appear like trousers to some posters below is surely indicative that they were not smart enough.

حذفI think it is time to stop regarding the style of the late Queen as an absolute standard. The purpose of wearing boots has totally changed over the years. They are now just a normal element of clothing, fitting perfectly with some dresses or skirts, as appearing here ! A bit or very cold weather are no longer part of reasons to wear them. Yes they can be seen as "great, normal and fashionable".

Camilla is wearing dark pants, with ankle boots which looks rather odd, when looking at close up photos of her. She could have worn her 'old faithful' black boots, rather than the short ankle ones, we'd never have noticed she was wearing black pants.

i think its the color pattern of the boots, they have different black tones; the black tone on the legs (not pants) is the same shade on the back heel. But still she could have done better!

حذفCamilla's coat is nice, I like the decorative value of the non-central closure and the light slanted line on the top. Simple but good, spares her some features that would not add anything good - like a pronounced waistline, e.g. - Catherine's coat is almost her "uniform" style, but also very nice, here the pronounced horizontal waistline is very welcome. I would not mind her hat, if those silly arrows would go away to spend time with other silly decorative elements on hats. I don`t mind a flower here and there on a hat, but these darting arrows or feathers or whatevers do not show any added value (besides being somehow very british and as such, immediately recognizable).

Since it is winter, I think that a scarves of some kind would have been a nice addition for both of the Royal ladies, also softening up the lines a bit. I love the fact that they are wearing boots! And ohhhh! Catherine seems to be wearing the five strand pearl necklace from the late Queen...Or am I wrong? And straight hair! Prins William and Catherine are beautiful together.

حذفThe queens coat is a nice shade of blue, the detail on the edge reminds me of a fleece blanket stitch. The princess looks nice, perhaps a few more buttons at the belt. I find the the close fitting garment to snug, I think it would look nicer with a bit of wiggle room,

You can see, close up, the pants, are slightly different looking than the ankle boots Camilla is wearing. Rather tacky, she wasnt out in the cold wind at the airport. حذفRegarding the idea that Camilla is wearing pants: Firstly, when is the last time she wore pants? We have seen her wear jeans a few times while on her down time for private photoshoots (which looked amazing on her), but never in her capacity as queen, greeting foreign visitors. Secondly, if she did wear pants, would she really choose a style that hugged her legs? I can't imagine a more unflattering cut of trousers for her. It is so simple to Google what she is wearing before making comments that she looks "tacky".

Who is giving her these stupid ideas ? Without the black boots the coat + hat would have been prettier. Princess Catherine is also wearing a blue dress/coat and black boots. Apparently they didn't asked each other what to wear. To create a bit contrast, Princess Catherine could have worn approximately the same outfit in burgundy plus the head band which see has. All the men wore a woolen coat too. It must have been cold in London Heatrow.
ردحذفRe the blanket stitching on Camilla’s coat, it adds interest. It’s not stupid, it’s a decoration that she obviously likes. For me it enhances the garment, not ruins it.

ردحذفCatherine's blue coat is magnificent. I like how it is fitted with the belt and carefully placed pockets. The small brooch and cute hat are perfect accessories. The longer length works well with the boots. She looks great here.

حذف2:12 The way Catherine styles/curls her hair has had it's time. I would never want her to fall into the habit so many royals have of keeping the same hairstyle for decades. The length of her hair gives her versatility and I hope she will have fun with her hair and not get stuck. Having natural curls is very different than deliberately curling the hair. I have curly hair and I cannot always successfully wear straighter styles, but I like to try. We have to work with what we have.

ردحذفI like the matching hat and boots. I think maybe a scarf would have given the neck area more coverage. She wore this for the Christmas walk in ‘23 and at that time wore a navy roller neck jumper, which gave the look more finesse.
Camilla wire this I believe in their trip to Germany. It’s a good color on her. The hat is very Camilla.

ردحذفThere probably isn’t a written rule about boots - and both royal ladies can specific circumstances that make their choices understandable (Camilla with her age and Kate with her medical treatments). Whilst there isn’t probably a written rule, they do appear less formal than shoes, especially in the context of a state visit. Acceptable, but not great.
A better showing for Frau B than in Spain. She is so typically German in her sartorial choices.

ردحذف@03.02 rather strange and personal comments. I think if they were aiming at Prussian blue they would have worn Prussian blue. The tailoring of both the PoW`s and Q.C`s coats is superb, the hats are a good choice and boots are definitely needed in the UK now. From what can be seen in the photos of the following reception all ladies appear to be wearing simple but classic styles comlimented with beautiful jewellery.
