To mark the start of Diabetes Awareness Month in November, Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden received the new Secretary-General of the Swedish Child Diabetes Foundation (Barndiabetesfonden), Karolina Janson, at the Royal Palace in Stockholm. Also present at the audience was Professor Johnny Ludvigsson, founder of the Child Diabetes Foundation and a world-leading researcher in the field of type 1 diabetes.
During the audience, the Crown Princess was briefed on the latest developments in type 1 diabetes research and the progress of the Foundation. Crown Princess Victoria has served as patron of the Child Diabetes Foundation since 1993 and has a long-standing commitment to the fight against type 1 diabetes.
The Child Diabetes Foundation works to raise funds for research into type 1 diabetes, increase public awareness about the disease, and provide support for those affected. It is the largest financier of Swedish research on type 1 diabetes.
During the meeting, the Blue Knot — the Foundation’s symbol in the fight against type 1 diabetes — was presented to the Crown Princess. She also met Milli, the Foundation’s new educational plush dragon who has type 1 diabetes. Milli will be distributed to hospitals across Sweden and given to children aged 0–11 who are newly diagnosed with the disease.
