On October 20, Emperor Naruhito, Empress Masako, and Princess Aiko visited the Sento Imperial Palace to extend their birthday greetings to Empress Emerita Michiko.
They are the cutest. It's good to see them.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful that they released these photos! I lived in Japan years ago so have a special fondness for these two. Hope to see them for many years to come.
ReplyDeletePhoto 4 is likely the best Royal photo I’ll see this year. Delightful. I think that we don’t see a lot of open affection traditionally in the Japanese culture. The hand holding is particularly sweet and meaningful.
ReplyDeleteI know it may come as a blow to some of the commenters here, but some married couples actually love each other and have genuine affection for each other. It is a beautiful thing to see! They are a fine example. I adore these two.
Paloma.
They are such a lovely couple. Photo 4 of them holding hands,is the most endearing of images. So sweet!
ReplyDeleteWishing HM the best of birthdays!
Lowri.
Always been and still is: a very elegant, exquisitely dressed Empress!
ReplyDeleteThe hand holding of this dignified imperial couple is so touching, I could cry, the message is so strong that it can only be felt.

Oh, doesn’t Aiko look absolutely lovely!! She just glows in that color, and such a pretty hat! The empress emerita always wears elegant attire that is very distinctively tailored, as here. — Jane
