On September 6, 2025, Japan marked Prince Hisahito’s coming-of-age with a grand ceremony at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. Prince Hisahito underwent the Kakan-no-Gi crown-wearing ritual, the main event of the ceremonies, at the Imperial Palace. Among the Imperial Family members in attendance were Emperor Naruhito, Empress Masako, Crown Prince Akishino, Crown Princess Kiko, Princess Aiko, and Princess Kako.

Prince Hisahito then changed into traditional attire for adult male members of the Imperial Family and paid his respects at the Imperial Palace’s Three Sacred Shrines, where the Imperial ancestors are enshrined. In the afternoon, he took part in the Chōken-no-Gi, his first audience with the Emperor and Empress. On this occasion, the Emperor presented him with the Grand Cordon of the Supreme Order of the Chrysanthemum.

Wow what a lovely ceremony. The ladies all impeccable in their signature dress. The pearl necklace on the empress is the perfect length on her collar. Would love to see a close up of Princess Aiko’s purse. Her pale pink dress pretty but not a good sting colour for her. I get the impression she prefers plain styles versus her cousin who tends to have more embellishment on her dress.

  3. Crown Princess Kiko looking unusually emotional there. Also, I'm sorry to say, but that hat does absolutely nothing for Princess Aiko. And what a magnificent train Prince Hisahito had on his grand ceremonial dress.

What great tradition in Japan. The gowns of the Imperial ladies look great. Somehow the Prince just looks so very young. He will have great Responsibility in the future. Some young people are more mature at this age, and some are not. I wish him the best.

What a sartorially splendid occasion — and I’ll say it: young Prince Hisahito is a dreamboat 😍

The traditional ceremonial costumes, spanning centuries of intricate design and history, are simply magnificent.
