    What an ugly dress

    1. I can understand why you think it is 'ugly'. But you have to admit it certainly is original and unusual and that the designer was creative.
It's one of a kind and the floral arrangement and colours are very vibrant. The way the flowers stop midway on the sleeves and body of the dress is interesting. The violet against the pink is a good colour combination.

Was this comment really worth making? I detest comments that make everyone feel bad without bothering to explain kindly your viewpoint for others to reflect on. If you need guidance, use the same language you’d use if speaking directly to the wearer or the designer.

I don’t think it’s ugly, but it is rather on the fussy side. It looks to me more like something one would wear as a guest to a spring wedding.

Paloma.

In photo 4 where we just see the upper of the dress, the colouring is very flattering for Mathilde. In the full length shots the dress seems to overwhelm her.

Wow, this is a Whole Lotta Dress. Dozens of fancy buttons, puffy sleeves, big contrasting belt buckle, on top of what is already a very complex colour and pattern design.
I think it's all too much for Mathilde. I'm not even sure whether any other royal could wear this dress without being overwhelmed. The fabric is the kind of pattern which would look great as a full length evening dress -- but with sleeves removed, no buttons, no belt and a wide boat neckline. Simplifying the shape would allow the pretty pattern to be fully appreciated. Lyra

I also find it a rather unfortunate piece, nevertheless the third picture, looking at each other is sweet. I admire this royals for living and working together, not an easy task i believe.

"Let's put flower-buttons on it, in case somebody happens to miss the floral motiv. And while we are at it, puffy arms too, in case somebody misses the airy-lightheartedness of this design. And also because we can." That I hate hate this kind of high collars is my bad luck, but also bad luck for this dress.

It's me who wrote Anon 16:28. Forgot to add: splendid length. But everything else is just like an overspiced meal that gives you heartburn. The single ingredients can be good - and then you ruin the whole thing by putting everything in it. Though - those flower-buttons are not a good ingredient above the age of 5.

What did you thought, being a bit sarcastic and everybody will start to laugh? You could have simply said that you don't like the dress. All Zimmermann dresses have more or less the same details. Big sleeves, high necks, busy prints, etc...

@Anon 18:20: why the irritation? I don't belong to those who write "I like/dislike it" because I myself don't find this kind of comments interesting myself. I prefer to write why I like/dislike something and prefer to do it in my own way. Yes, I was sarcastic related to the dress - but you were sarcastic against me personally. Big difference.

If Queen Mary wore this dress everybody would like it, especially because it is a Zimmermann, which is one of her go to fashion brands.

On other Belgian sites I saw Queen Mathilde when she was greeting the children and the people of Ostend. It was very windy and probably not very warm, so she was lucky to wear a dress with a high neck collar. Her pink handbag was the Tempête by Belgian designer of leather goods Delvaux.
