On Saturday, Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa presented the Order of Civil and Military Merit of Adolphe of Nassau at Berg Castle to four recipients recognized for their commitment to the fight against sexual violence against women. The Order is one of the principal orders of merit of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, awarded for distinguished service to the Grand Duke, the Grand-Ducal House, and Luxembourg.
The Grand Duke conferred the distinction upon: Dr. Denis Mukwege, 2018 Nobel Peace Prize laureate and human rights activist; Mrs. Chékéba Hachemi, co-founder of Stand Speak Rise Up! and former Franco-Afghan diplomat; Mrs. Elisabeth Nicoli, lawyer, activist of the MLF, and co-president of the Alliance of Women for Democracy; Mr. Philippe Peyrat, General Delegate of the ENGIE Foundation.

Just four more days, then they retire. They must be looking forward to retirement.
ReplyDeleteI'm ready for the reign of Guillaume and Stéphanie.

The Grand Duchess is looking awful on these photos. Outfit not flattering but very unsuitable for her. Makes her look stocky and heavy.
ReplyDeleteIt does not really make her more "stocky" than she is, in the real world. No outfit can change her physique, but onlookers could, instead, accept it as it is.
DeleteTutto sommato è da ammirare, perché è libera di vestire come vuole e non le interessa nascondere le eventuali imperfezioni. Impariamo da lei, dobbiamo accettarci perché uniche.
DeleteIt’s obvious that she has gained 15-20 lbs. menopause is awful on the female body. It’s a beautiful outfit that elongates her but she can’t help the weight gain. MR
Delete@Rossella: Yes!
Delete20:21 and Rossella, your replies are really beautiful. 14:11, I imagine if Maria Teresa reads your comment she’d feel hurt.
DeleteIf someone on this blog should write such things about another princess or queen she would "kindly" be remembered we do not do body shaming. Referring to menopause is simply not done and not true because Maria Teresa wasn't thin anymore long before her presumed menopause began.
Delete@ different Anon.: My remark has nothing to do with "bodyshaming", as some uproar here says. Even after menopause you can wear clothes that flatter you especially if one has the money and the couture houses MT has. She very often dresses in a way that is not to her advantage!
DeleteOften I hear people say "if you have the money for it" why not buy better clothes that suit her morphology better. I don't know how it is in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg : do they receive an annual budget for representation costs voted by the Government of Luxembourg. I suppose there are costs that they have to pay themselves and other costs that are paid by the Government. It is always easy to say of other people they have plenty of money to buy new and better clothes, but in reality nobody nows what are the things they must pay from that yearly budget.
DeleteUsually I don’t like much of what Maria Teresa wears…too much fabric or too much of something that overwhelms her. But I think she looks just fine here and especially like the sparkly band on her top. As a woman who is around the same age and body type, short stature and all as Maria Teresa, I can say it’s not easy keeping off extra weight despite a healthy diet and exercise. I think many women, no matter what body type and age can relate to that! We do the best we can with what we have, short and stocky, tall and thin or whatever.
DeleteBest wishes to the Grand Ducal couple in their upcoming retirement! I like the pale mauve color on the Grand Duchess and I like the idea of her outfit, but the top could fit better across the shoulders. The jacket on the lady holding the bouquet in the first pic is gorgeous. How I would like to see closer photos of it!

Top and trousers in one colour: só much better for her!

DeleteNobody forces you to read nor to react on the comments of this blog.
The outfit she is wearing does not enhance her figure, instead makes her look more portly. Maybe in another color it might have looked better.
ReplyDeleteMaria Teresa nous a habitués à bien mieux que cette tenue.
ReplyDelete20.21Rossella, well said, agree with you.
ReplyDeleteJe ne comprend pas les commentaires aigres de certaines ; je serais curieuse de voir leur silhouette !!
ReplyDeleteThe Grand Duchess no longer has the figure of the past, for whatever reason, like many women. However, she definitely has the financial means to order outfits adapted to her figure, but she does the exact opposite with unfortunate results.
ReplyDeletePerhaps her desire to look younger than ever blurrs her perception. A pity really because she seems to be confused in this respect and there are realistic sartorial solutions.

MT consistently makes odd clothing choices that do her no favors. This ensemble is unflattering. The detail at the top Is pretty but cannot save the effect on her.
ReplyDeleteOne thing is for sure, from next week on the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess can take long vacations in their villa in France and go on ski vacation what they also like very much. They can also take care of their multiple grand children like any other grand parents do, especially Maria-Teresa who loves her grand children a lot. We will see in the future if they will still help their son and daughter in law in their new duties or if they will retire completely from the first day on ? I am looking forward to the end of this week to see how the enthronement will take place and what will be the outfits of the different royal attendees to the festivities.
ReplyDeleteOnly the Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands, and Luxembourg) royals will attend. The current grand duke's first cousin, King Philippe of the Belgians, and his wife Queen Mathilde, as well as the grand duke's distant cousin, King Willem-Alexandar, his wife Queen Maxima, and their daughter, the Princess of Orange. The Luxembourgian and Dutch royal families are both members of House of Nassau.
DeleteI hope the new Grand Duke, will visit other royals or receive other royals in the coming months.

PS: I am also eagerly awaiting the festivities.
GD MT outfit has me reminiscing of a Stella McCartney that the then CP Mary once wore.
ReplyDeleteIt seems lightweight wear. It sits nicely on her frame. The trouser is sitting neatly. The neckline draws the eye to the sparkle.
Lowri.
Menopause is not a bad word. It is nothing to be ashamed of it is life and we all go through it, and very differently. But we could be kind when we discuss body shapes.
