On August 23, 2025, Queen Sonja of Norway attended the finals of the Queen Sonja Singing Competition at the Oslo Concert Hall. The Queen presented the prizes at the final concert. Soprano Kathleen O'Mara from the USA won first prize at the 2025 competition. Three finalist prizes were awarded to Vladyslav Buialskyi, baritone from Ukraine, Hannah Edmunds, soprano from Norway, and Justyna Khil, soprano from Poland.The finalists were accompanied by the Oslo Philharmonic under the direction of conductor Nicholas Carter. Jasmin White, winner of the 2023 Queen Sonja Singing Competition, served as host for the evening. This year, 500 singers from 57 different countries applied to take part in the competition. The participants are primarily young, newly trained singers at the beginning of their careers in opera and classical music.
The queen looks lovely. I am surprised she wore pants rather than a skirt or dress for this occasion since the singers dress up for the competition. I find the shoulders of the jacket don’t quite fit her arm a bit to wide, not sure what it is.
ReplyDeleteI think it’s normal that soloists accompanied by a symphony orchestra are the absolutely best dressed in the house. The queen looks fresh and elegant and appropriate wearing several dress steps down from the sopranos.
DeleteQueen Sonja seems to love her white. Pants and top are offset nicely with a colored pin stripped blazer. (versus the all white ensemble last week) I think it would hang smoother if she had unbuttoned the jacket. Kudos to the musicians - they look lovely in their evening attire.
