On August 21, 2025, Queen Margrethe II of Denmark visited Den Gamle By (The Old Town) in Aarhus. Den Gamle By is an open-air town museum. The Queen was welcomed by the museum’s director, Julie Rokkjær Birch, and curator Lisbeth Skjernov. She visited the Tailor’s Hall, where head tailor Malene Vestergaard Redder spoke about the making of costumes both for the museum’s actors and for educational programs with schoolchildren. In the Schoolroom, the Queen was received by education manager and head of department Tina Houmand Mortensen, who explained the museum’s teaching activities, including the costumes the children wear when experiencing daily life as pupils in the 19th century. Queen Margrethe also observed a session with children in historical costumes before visiting the Embroidery Workshop and the fashion shop Elle Boutique on Nygade.
Creativity is her Happy place.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad she chose to step back and concentrate on her health and some peace . She does look frail but happy and always beautifully dressed. Knowing her great interest in costume making this must have been a joyous visit for her. LRB
ReplyDeleteI like her nice comfortable dress. Someone should have fixed her collar on top of her sweater. I like the sweater with the dress not restricting like a jacket. She seems to be enjoying these engagements that she clearly has an interest in. Seems she made the correct decision to stepdown/retire so she can enjoy herself.
