On August 31, 2025, Queen Rania of Jordan celebrates her 55th birthday. Born Rania Al Yassin on August 31, 1970, she married then Prince Abdullah in 1993. When Abdullah ascended the throne in 1999, she became Queen of Jordan. The couple has four children: Crown Prince Al Hussein, Princess Iman, Princess Salma, and Prince Hashem. To mark the occasion, the Royal Hashemite Court has released a new official portrait of Queen Rania, in which she is wearing an arctic blue maxi dress by Solace London.
Solace London the Adami Maxi Dress
Well, a No from me. This is, for me, an example for l'art pour l'art, i.e. design for design's sake, not for the sake of the wearer. It could be an exhibit in a fashion exhibition and would evoke mixed feelings. But this is not a dress for a queen.
ردحذفWell stated, I agree, just excess fabric for no purpose. I do like the colour
حذف@Anon 23:00 What, exactly, is "a dress for a queen"? I have never been aware of any rules or laws that dictate what queens or other royals must wear. I am only aware of the perceived ideas that some people have about what they "should" be wearing. I always find statements like this ridiculous. She, and any other royal women, can wear whatever they choose to wear. Fashion is a form of art and this gown's design goes back decades. I think she had chosen a beautiful piece of fashion for this portrait. Not every piece of clothing has to serve a practical purpose. Sometimes beauty and drama are what is called for.
حذف@Anon 09:15: I thought my second sentence would clarify what I mean. I find that it is not really quite appropriate for a queen to wear something avantgarde-ish, suitable for a model, an "influencer" or, as I said, even for a fashion exhibition. Even less for a birthday portrait. I always enjoy our royal ladies wearing beautiful outfits - but I do not enjoy when my first association with what they wear is "fashion model" or even worse: "clothes horse". But I have no problem at all with "agree to disagree" in this point - without the need to call your opinion "ridiculous" like you do. Enough if we think it.
حذف@Anon 09:15 Hear! Hear! Well said, and I agree with all your many points.

@Anon 23:00, Thank you for demonstrating patience and civility. You have articulated your point of view very well, and without resorting to insults. Expressing an opinion on this blog is often like walking through a minefield; kudos to you for taking the high road. — Jane
حذف@17:03 eloquently explained. Re your comment “ not really quite appropriate for a queen to wear something avantgarde-ish”, I think we must allow queens to be the humans they are including choosing their clothes, … there is no particular set uniform for queens except maybe what we imagined from childhood fairytale pictures of queens?! They may be even more likely to wear some weird creations because they tend to be awfully rich compared with us, and have the money for some wild fashion they wear for a half hour whereas we mere mortals are more likely to think about clothes which are practical and timeless to get our value for money!
حذفRania looks much younger!
ردحذفonly 31
حذفDue to a lot of well done plastic surgery !!
حذفToo too much facial altering, I agree.
حذفShe has hair-extensions and had a nose-job etc. But she has remained a youthly radiation.
حذفRania looks great, but this dress is a no for me. The color is nice, but the design is not.

The best I’ve seen the Queen look in years! Natural and great hair style. The blue is lovely on her! MR
ردحذفQueen Rania is an absolute beauty. I like the elegance and simplicity of this Arctic blue maxi dress, highlighted only by the exaggerated kimono sleeves. With Rannia's slim, tall figure, she carries this design off with a quiet class. Happy birthday to the lovely Queen.
ردحذفMême avis que vous pour la robe, comme une oeuvre d'art moderne.
حذفBelle couleur et très beau plissé du tissu. Une robe parfaite pour des photos mais sans doute peu pratique au quotidien (pour manger par exemple) ! Paloma.
I love this dress. It suits her well and is appropriate for this special occasion. I only wonder what people in Jordan think of the fact she spends enormous amounts of money on clothing she seems to wear only for a few times. Jordan being a poor country, or at least with a lot of poor people. It didn’t fair well for Marie Antoinette …
حذفQueen Rania looks beautiful and the color of her dress is a nice choice for her. The design of the dress is a problem for me because the excessive sleeves are bordering on silly. Would love to know what the fabric is.

I find this to be a beautiful dress— the lines are almost sculptural, yet flow wonderfully. This shade of blue creates a mood of cool elegance, and looks good on Rania.
ردحذفMy opinion as well. Quite nice on her, sculptural, however suitable only for a minority of women. Her choice is Ok for me since she is celebrating "her day".
حذفI wonder what the dress would look like in the flesh, its unusual and different. I don't mind it at all. The color is sublime.
ردحذفQ R , as always, wonderful!
ردحذف中国の美しい青磁の花瓶のようです。素敵なドレスですけれど、王妃には少し地味ではないでしょうか。
ردحذفThe dress is gorgeous on Rania - apart from the single extra-long sleeve. It looks odd, given that there are no other elements in the look to balance it. The photographer has wisely taken the picture from the side, to avoid the balance issue.
ردحذفPerhaps the gown might look balanced when Rania is wearing a sash plus orders plus large bracelet on the right wrist, as these things,(especially the diagonal line of a sash), could visually balance the look. Lyra
Beaucoup de légèreté dans ce modèle de robe dont la couleur convient à ravir à la reine ; j'aurais bien voulu la voir de face pour mieux apprécier ses lignes !
ردحذفTaste differs and probably in the arabic world this dress and the excessive sleeves are not silly at all. Rania is for sure one of the most beautiful royal ladies. I hope she won't exaggerate the use of plastic surgery.
ردحذفShe won't because she already did :-)
حذفI have to agree with you, Anonymous 17:04. It is a pity. She does not need it.
حذفHappy Birthday to this smashing Queen!
ردحذفShe looks marvellous as always.
Like hee aqua green maxi dress/ tunic though I would have preferred a tad less wide sleeves.
This is definitely an 'art' style of dress. Not meant to be practical but whimsical, creative and fun. I love the colour, the style of the design, and the sheered fabric. Rania looks lovely in it.
ردحذف- Anon 9:13
She looks fantastic. And what a beautiful elegant dress!
ردحذفAlthough I am not against assymetry in couture, the dress with 2 different assymetric sleeves are a bit exaggerated
ردحذفNo no this dress however beautiful colour has too many panels. And a bit less make-up would become Rania cause she is a beauty and does not need this
ردحذفI agree especially the heavy brows
حذفAn official portrait of her walking into a building? Don’t get it.
ردحذفShe looks stunning and quite possibly the dress and eyebrow makeup are purely for this fashion shoot and not something to actually wear (as Paloma points out, those sleeves are highly impractical). As an art piece, it’s stunning, and I hope her face has been heavily photoshopped and not permanently altered, as it would be crazy for a 55 year old to be choosing to look the same age as her daughters otherwise .
ردحذف55 is not very old these days. It is often at that age women realize "how will I look when I will be much older" and start to change a lot of things at their face and body. In some cases women of that age have already done a lot of chirurgical and cosmetic interventions and they quickly start to control if everything is still allright. If they think they must hurry before they are getting to old to change a couple of things they will usually do it before they are getting the age of 60-65-70. In the meantime the changes which can be done are much softer procedures than in the old days. Some find her brows are too thick or too black. This doesn't disturb me. Arab ladies often have black natural hair and thick black natural brows. She probably has colored them at the same time she has colored her hair. It is better to start coloring your hair before you become entirely gray. If you wait too long everybody have already seen you with gray hair. I think her brows are not too thick. They have a beautiful shape which suits Queen Rania. I hope one day she will be completely pleased with the face and body she looked well after. It is known that many women who are constantly thinking of how they look and what they still could do to look better in the end become the opposite of what they want. There is a time for everything.
