On July 28, 2025, Spain's Queen Letizia chaired the annual meeting of the directors of the Cervantes Institute for the year 2025. The Canary Islands hosted the annual meeting of the directors of Instituto Cervantes centers, which was held at the University of La Laguna, in Tenerife. The Instituto Cervantes is a public institution created by Spain in 1991 to universally promote the teaching, study, and use of the Spanish language and to contribute to the dissemination of Hispanic cultures abroad.
