On May 30, 2025, Queen Letizia of Spain attended the opening of the 84th edition of the Madrid Book Fair, held at El Retiro Park in Madrid. This year, the theme is "New York Illuminates the Retiro." The event, running from May 30 to June 15, features 365 booths. The fair pays tribute to writers such as Mario Vargas Llosa, Carmen Martín Gaite, and Paul Auster, celebrating their literary legacy.
Among the objectives of the Madrid Book Fair 2025 cultural program are the strengthening of its traditional Ibero-American focus and the promotion of rich cultural heritage. The Queen toured the fair, visiting various exhibitors and speaking with representatives and authors. Held every spring, the fair is one of the most important cultural events for book and literature lovers in Spain. For the event, Queen Letizia wore a shirt dress by Hugo Boss.

DeleteWhat a pretty shift dress, the one from Etro - and in a good length! I don't even remember the last time one of the royal ladies wore a real shift dress. I like this one more than Letitia's shirt dress, simply because I don't like shirt dresses. But she looks good in it anyway, of course.

ReplyDeleteLove both dresses, they look so easy to wear. The sandals a pretty but I don’t care for the ankle strap, perhaps if it was lower on the up foot it would be a nicer open look.

Old lady sandals ? I see this type of sandals coming back each year in the shoe shops. Almost every brand has them with block heels, with flat heels and with stiletto heels and in all kind of colors. During Spring and Summer when the weather is hot everybody wears them teenagers, adult women and older women. Not the real old women because they all have more or less feet problems, they wear comfort shoes. The sandals on the pictures are not comfort sandals.
Delete@Anon 05:10: the sandals are the Hugo Boss Melanie 50 sandals, a repeat. The straps are not exactly what old ladies value around their ankles. But well - in this blog, "old lady style" is more or less synonymous with "I don't like it", for lack of sufficient vocabulary.

Q.Letizia's dress looks simple and fresh but I am particularly intrigued by the guava rose coloured courts worn by the lady standing next to her in the last pic.

I myself am going to look through some brands latest collections ASAP.
And if I should regret buying any piece , I could throw it away in the garbage after all (no matter the designer brand and the price) lol!!
I am not a fan of the Etro prints but this one is flattering and not busy.

I managed to spot a gava rose coloured, quilted bag.
I am thinking of buying It but still on the fence.

ReplyDeleteNo, no lo es. Es un vestido muy bonito, pero rígido, menos fresco que el de la reina y con mangas demasiado largas y los zapatos son preciosos pero tan estrechos y de alto tacón inadecuados para una larga caminata entre las casetas bajo un sol de justicia.
DeleteAyer hacía 35º a la sombra, así que el vestido de Letizia es ligero como una pluma y sus sandalias de tacón ancho y bajo y completamente abiertas son lo adecuado para la visita. Ella lo sabe bien porque va cada año.
Lo de las sandalias para ancianas me deja completamente asombrada. No sé si los tobillos de las señoras de mucha edad pueden soportar las tiras de este tipo. En fin, gente pa tó.

Wouldn’t it be marvellous if royals could systematically retire/abdicate while still healthy and write their autobiographies whilst playing a bit more golf, being their to support the new king or queen, and working only when they want?!
