On May 8, 2025, Princess Aiko of Japan visited the Japan Pavilion and the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement Pavilion, operated by the Japanese Red Cross Society, at the Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025. She also visited Yumeshima, the artificial island that serves as the Expo site. Princess Aiko will remain in Osaka until Friday.
Japanese royals’ clothes are so boring, particularly the young royals. Former Empress Michiko being the very notable exception. Her clothes were always exquisite.
ReplyDeleteTotalky agree
DeleteIt puzzles me that the younger japanese royals seem to be forced into emulating the styles worn by Empress Michiko in the 1960s. Look up the photos from the 2025 New Year Reception, they are all dressed in copies of Michiko's own wedding dress from 1959.
DeleteBut not only that was the fashionable look back then, her clothing did fit her well. These "copies" are almost always ill fitted and unecessarily bulky. Its mind boggling given more traditional and modest clothing have been fashionable for several years now, Catherine and the Duchess of Edinburgh wear plenty of them for example.

Now this is really a nice little suit, the jacket is a superb soft feminine style, not too long and perfectly fitted. My first thought was: maybe her mother's style influence showing here? Also nice detail: the handbag, short handles worn over her arm. Not over the shoulder (which never really looks good), also not holding it in her hand, occupying the hand and letting the bag dangle. This solution reminds me of Her Late Majesty QEII, who always wore handbags with short handles over her arm and elegantly ignored bag fashion.
ReplyDeleteThis dear princess looks very nice. The style of her skirt and length of the jacket is a nice profile for her. I find she favours her father with that smile.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and the pearls are so exquisite! Ac
ReplyDeleteWell, ... first the pearl jewelry is exquisite. As for the suit (or jacket over dress?), the tailoring is excellent as always with the Japanese but the accessories chosen - the shoes, bag, and gloves - are just too old for her. Get rid of the gloves and give her age-appropriate modern shoes and bag and this would be a great look for her. And to be clear, I'm not talking about four inch stiletto heels or anything crazy like that; just something from the 21st century with a sensible heel. Even a dressy wedge would look better than these grandma shoes! Poor girl.
ReplyDeleteYou can see with each appearance she is gaining more engaging and confident, wonderful to see. She has such a sweet smile. The pearl necklace, gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteHere is a video of her arrival, just a few seconds at the beginning show what I thought when looking at Helen's first photo (and what made me look for a video): Sure this perfectly cut skirt moves beautifully, and it does - it is really just a few second sof movement: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9N3H_nWe2eY .
ReplyDeleteI do like the style of the jacket, the collar suits her nicely. Pearls are superb. I look at the outfits worn as official business suits, not meant to be anything else. All suits are different and the colours are symbolic the workmanship and fabric exquisite. They have changed the type of skirts this princess wears, which is much better than the straight ones. As far as boring, that is not a fair statement considering the signature dresses QCamilla wears.
ReplyDeletei just viewed the video and the suit is actually quite nice compared to the photos. The skirt has movement, the fabric looks less stiff. It does look more youthful.
ReplyDeleteGreat look.

私は昨日、外出先のテレビでこのニュースを観ました。
ReplyDeleteテレビから「愛子さまは……」と聞こえると、その場にいた女性たちが一斉にテレビに注目したので面白かった。
みんな笑顔でした。
