King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima are on a two-day state visit to Cyprus at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides. On March 4, President Nikos Christodoulides and First Lady Philippa Karsera hosted a state banquet at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia in honor of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima. For the state banquet, Queen Máxima wore a gown designed by Jan Taminiau.
For her evening in Nicosia, Queen Máxima chose the bandeau tiara, featuring a row of pink diamonds. The history of this jewel dates back to 1879. The tiara was commissioned by Queen Wilhelmina, great-grandmother of the current king, using diamonds that had belonged to her mother, Queen Emma. During Queen Wilhelmina’s reign, the original necklace—composed of 34 large diamonds—was dismantled and transformed into a new tiara featuring 27 diamonds.
I love this - the design is interesting and kind of fun with the sparkly top and cut out. I think she’s accessorized it beautifully too. The stones in the bandeau tiara are stunning, yet it’s not an overpowering look. (V.M.)

ردحذفThe First Lady's gown is very nice though I'd have ditched the loose sleeves. Slimmer, fitted, long sleeves with a stylish cuff would have been better suited to the First Lady.
I love Maxima's gown and I believe she has worn this before. It's a very clever two-piece, consisting of a long slip dress topped with a sparkly, stylishly shaped capelet. The shapes of the two worn together provide a slightly provocative peep-hole, that doesn't over-step any bounds of propriety in my book, even for a queen. It's tastefully done. I also like her soft updo, and the narrow, jewelled bandeau is perfectly understated to match the tone of the event. Well done.

Interesting how you perceive the look. I think the balance of material/bare skin in this look is perfectly balanced and matched. A stunning queenly look without being over the top, given that their cohosts in the event are not royal and don’t normally have access to the same bling. I think Queen Maxima nailed it.
حذفI agree with Anon 9:40. I am curious about the opinion that her bare arms don't work with the dark color of the dress. I think the color flatters her. I was expecting at least one opinion about her hair not being pulled back on both sides. I like that she tries different styles. It gives me hope that she will not become one of the queens with the same sprayed hair style that could withstand a hurricane.

حذفNo, she wouldn't look elegant in a bob. A bob is a serviceable style. It does not leave much room for options, especially when in settings that a tiara is required.

Also when she wears a hat she often has an updo (which means false hair piece necessary to create an updo on one side at the back of her neck). Her natural hair is thinning so she has not enough natural hair to create an hairstyle that is capable to keep a tiara in place.

I think the First Lady’s dress is superb — elegant simplicity at its finest. Perfectly fitted and with just enough subtle detailing to impart feminine charm. Brava! Both ladies wear their gowns with great panache because they have beautiful posture. I appreciate the history embodied in Maxima’s tiara and that gorgeous bracelet.
