  2. Quelle superbe photo - Je peux penser que leur voyage en France ne se situera que sur Paris car j'aurais bien aimé les voir faire un petit détour dans le Lot ; je peux rêver !

As Mary was still crown princess, her cv on the Danish Royal website listed Danish, English, and French. But French was taken away after some time.

Both her mother tongue and her second language are listed there. Is it in any way relevant for you if or that she speaks a bit of French? Pray, let us know why.

You should follow Queen Mary on her trips.
I'm sure you would (auto)- translate anything in French (and in any other language) in no time.
You look so good at the French language in your comments here on this blog!!!!!!!!!!!!
(I know you love exclamation marks).
What about your Finnish, by the way?

Well noted @ Anonymous 13:00. She lived in Paris for some (?) months during her courtship and may speak some French.

I’m not sure why the critical comments by Anon 17:26 and P are here against your comment - there is nothing to ridicule with your facts. I wish the cutting comments and meanness would stop here. Stupid and nasty to erode others’ reasonable comments.

Anonymous 05:17: thank you for your support. The comment is simply a note on language, which plays an important role when receiving members of the royal family abroad.

There’s no problem mentioning Mary’s languages. There is a real problem responding with cutting sarcasm.

      What spanish lady?
Queen Mary was born in Tasmania, Australia.

I do not think that Finland waits for any Spanish lady. We know that the story of Frederik and a Spanish lady was only gossip. - Mary is originally from Australia - if I remember it correctly.

Anon at 13:04, what a weird comment! I do not know from which country you are but I'm sure that everyone in Finland knows that Mary is from Australia. And yes, we all are looking forward to their visit, not just looking 😉.

Love this photo of the royal couple! Now I'm excited to see what Queen Mary will wear on these 2 visits--wish she was joining the King on the Japanese visit too.

I’m wondering if QM will wear a tiara during their State visit to France. We know Camilla and Mathilde opted not to. Maybe tiaras are only worn when the host country has a King as head of state. With or without a tiara I’m sure QM will dazzle.

I am quite sure they will wear tiaras. At least the Swedish royals have always worn when they have visited Finland (several times).

Her native language is English, and she studied French during her secondary education. In 2002, she briefly worked as an English tutor in Paris while dating Crown Prince Frederik.[10] After moving to Denmark and before her marriage, Mary studied Danish as a foreign language at Studieskolen in Copenhagen in 2003

  14. She does look great on white, although I don't particularly like this picture, nevertheless I find that they both look formal and dignified.
On a different note, about having the silverware facing down at the royal table, it is to show the initials engraved on the back of the utensils. Who knew.?..I didn't, it came up on a Dutch documentary about the Dutch royal family.

    1. Hello Luna
I wanted to reply to the request for info about silverware in a table setting facing down (spoons, forks).
Unfortunately, I have very little free time at the moment so my comment is (perhaps) a bit out of date.
I’ve always been led to believe that they are faced down to show off the family’s initials or family crest.
The tableware we are talking about is, of course, solid silver.
This was a subtle way for the rich, noble or royal families to show off their standing or wealth.
And, it is also possible that each country has its rule or tradition for setting a table.
This culture has probably been almost lost to the fact that cutlery is now either silver plated or stainless steel.
The rich, noble and royals now have other ways of showing off their wealth.
p.s. Another great subject is table napkins and the rules, do’s and dont’s on how they are presented on a table.
