On Thursday evening, November 14, Queen Máxima officially opened the Don Quixote Sculpture Hall, the new sculpture garden of the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. This garden is part of the museum's renovated entrance area and features sixteen works by Dutch and international artists. Following the opening ceremony, Queen Máxima attended a dinner alongside artists, collectors, and benefactors to celebrate the occasion.
The Sculpture Hall showcases a blend of early modern classics and contemporary icons. Featured works include pieces by Henry Moore, Jean Arp, Alexander Calder, Willem de Kooning, Niki de Saint Phalle, and Paulina Olowska. The collection also includes a recently acquired sculpture by Anne Imhof and an iconic work on loan by Damien Hirst.
less is more, less is more ... I don't like the gown.
ReplyDeleteWhy can't we zoom into the pictures?
DeleteI really don't like this dress. The color, the sequin pattern... I understand the concept of the dress but, it's not working.
ReplyDeleteHer hairdo and make-up are beautiful. I also like her dress. There ia a lot of glitter on the dress but she has kept jewellery to a minimum so I think it looks nice.
ReplyDeleteI agree, the Queen is stunning! MR
DeleteUgly dress, looks like a corset imo
ReplyDeleteHaha a corset really? Buy some glasses pls
DeleteHair, make-up and accessories are great. Lovely bag. I do kind of like it the dress, but I'm not the biggest fan and I can't explain why. I do think it complements her a lot, in colour and style and boldness (in it's simplicity!).
ReplyDeleteDamsel Dragonfly
I can wait to read your comments, for me, alas is too much princess Leia vibe. I don't like the colour either. Her hair looks fantastic!
ReplyDeleteLuna
Chacune ses goûts. Elle est splendide
ReplyDeleteSeule Maxima peut se le permettre
Froufrou
Makes me think of Barbarella, no no no!
ReplyDeleteA contemporary dress at the opening of a contemporary sculpture garden; a very good choice in my opinion and the dress fits like a glove. Probably not to everybody's liking now, but we'll await the comments when QM rewears it.
ReplyDeleteThis is Maxima - de - luxe. Glamerous with evening hair and make-up.
ReplyDeleteI like the dress but the extra long train is unnecessairy.
Keep ik clean keep it simple ( haha not this time).
-Anna-
Her hair and makeup are perfect. But not the dress. This dress in another color (light blue, perhaps) and with sequins only on the neckline or waist would be glamorous.
ReplyDeleteTake away all the sequins and the dress alone is quite nice (I like the low cut back). If you must have some glitter, then add a few, narrow, strands of a few sequins in some places only, but not the broad bands as are currently shown everywhere on the dress. Hair and make-up are fine.

Beautiful as always! The hair looks great with extensions!
ReplyDeleteLove the gown, she looks like a warrior woman, an inspiration to us all as that is exactly what we need to be, right now and into the future. Rem
ReplyDeleteReally? A warrior woman? Haha
DeleteThe model of the dress is classic and elegant. But the colour is too beige for Máxima and these glittering golden applications horrible
ReplyDeleteShe looks great. Her looks amazing and the dress is different but I really like it on her.
ReplyDeleteHer hair looks great but do t like the dress or the ‘fish egg’ sequins and beads. Just a bit too much!
ReplyDeleteQuel magnifique look qui ne peut convenir qu'à Maxima après les rajouts scintillants originaux !
ReplyDeleteA little extravagant, but I like it. Suitable for an art event. This time I have to compliment her hair. I just don't understand one thing: why doesn't she have her hair styled like this every day?
ReplyDeleteStephanie
Definite no to the gown. The hair extensions look silly, when they are in one moment, out the next.
ReplyDeleteI agree, a new hairstyle is the best solution and no more extensions.
Delete@ 15:55
DeleteWhen her hair is done by a hair stylist with extensions, at least you cannot say her hair looks greasy and is not combed. Do you really know what you are saying here or what you want ? Finally what you are thinking doesn't matter anyway, Queen Maxima does not have to accept you "advice".
The placement of the pattern is quite suggestive, leading your eyes unerringly to her private parts, like a dart coming down from two directions and ending there. She looks beautiful, I like this gown, the sequins would also be all right, but the pattern is just silly/ridiculous (for me).
ReplyDeleteDid you forget the evening dress with the bare back Queen Letizia wore once. Was it not suggestive either ? Queen Maxima has a beautiful tanned back, not silly/ridiculous at all.
DeleteTo anon 11.11 nobody is saying something about her back
DeleteNice outfit for a contemporary exhibit. The earrings are spectacular.
ReplyDeleteI love this new gown by Jan Taminiaux one of the best designers in the category of gala dresses. He also has made a couple of evening gowns for Queen Mathilde and she looked also very beautiful. The color of the dress is nude, a color that suits Queen Maxima. She has other gowns in this color. The design of the dress makes me think a bit at the medieval dresses worn by princesses an aristocratics because of the emplacement of the sequin strands. Lucky her hairstylist did his best and added the necessary hair extensions. At least we are not bothered any more by those who has been complained about her hair every day this past week. The other attendees at the opening and dinner of the new sculpture hall are also dressed in gala outfit. Lucky Queen Maxima opted for a glamourous style. If she'd applied the "less is more" rule, which I call in this case "simple and boring", one would not even know she had been there.
ReplyDeleteYou have clearly a wrong understanding of what “ less is more” means when you like this extravagant style.
DeleteI like this style yes and I am not alone. All depends on the circumstances. Apparently this was a gala evening. There are more pictures on other websties. Less is more can be necessary in other circumstances, but here it is a happy celebration and if Queen Maxima and other guests on this gala feel they can wear something out of the ordinary, they must do it. Queen Maxima is a beautiful woman, if she cannot wear a dress like this nobody can. There are many occasions during a year when "less is more" can(must) be worn.
DeleteWow! GORGEOUS dress and hair and make up! Absolutely PERFECT!
Paloma.
Must agree. Stunning dress. She looks amazing. I am getting the feeling that she must be the hardest working royal in the world. How she does it, I don’t know. Lots of travel, preparation, meetings, and for each she needs to dress, make up and hair. I can only admire her. Even with a whole team of support ( which I don’t see) it is still a lot.
ReplyDeleteThe dress is over the topand strange, as are the cheek fillers. Too much.
ReplyDeleteElisabeth
She had two other visits during the day, I did not see cheek fillers in the morning and in the afternoon. Her make-up is different because it is an evening gala. Since Queen Maxima is always laughing and in good spirit she doesn't need cheek fillers. Her cheek are always round because she laughs a lot.
DeleteShe has had the cheek fillers for years. Sometimes they are more obvious, as on this occasion. Of course she has the best doctors so her face looks natural most of the time.
DeleteVery interesting and refreshingly different dress. I wouldn´t have expected this muddy colour to work with the shiny gold sequins but I think it works. The dress also fits and floats very well. Plus hair and make-up are well done and her accessories are great. The only thing I don´t fully like is how the sequins go very far down in front, to the point they make me think of a climbing or parachuting harness. I think it would have been better if they didn´t extend below the waistline.
ReplyDeleteThe sculpture is very very ugly to my eyes. I don´t understand what´s arty about it. Similarly, I don´t see any artistic value in the zebra in a glass box.
In modern art there are always weird sculptures and work of contemporary artists we don't like. I thought we were here to discuss fashion not art.
DeletePretty dress. The volume of sequins does make me wonder what kind of material the dress is made from, that it can support the sequins and is not tissue thin. The pattern of the sequins reminds Vanessa of a parachute harness and it reminds me of the harness one wears when one is a flag bearer in a parade and she does have a military escort in the one photo, perhaps a military subtext of the designer? Chris L.
ReplyDeleteIf the sequins would have stayed not further than just below the waist if would have been an improvement. Now it reminds me of a scoliosis brace. Never been a fan of bare back dresses.
ReplyDeleteSuzieQ
Nope looks like a corset outline of sequins, too suggestive imo
ReplyDeleteI love the shape and design, fit of this gown, but the sequins are a no. The color and I like beige is a bit to non descript/ dull on this occasion. Regardless she looks beautiful, her hair looks fabulous and makeup superb.
ReplyDeleteNice color, but too much sparkle, for my taste.

Queen Maxima looks beautiful here--her hair and makeup are wonderful. I like the gown itself but am not a fan of the sequined design. The back of the gown is beautiful--the band of sequins here is perfect. Wish the designer just created a belt instead of what looks almost like an armored breastplate outline.
ReplyDeleteJanet
Wow. What a glamourous queen! Her make up and hair are stunning.. I would have gone for a little less jewels on the gown, maybe just the neck and a simple jeweled belt. But Maxima is a risk taker and you gotta love her for that!
ReplyDeleteA total mess from hair extensions, makeup, to the over the top sequin pattern, bare back, gown in a horrid colour, its just too much. One must wonder, does she dress and act over the top behind closed doors, or is it just for the public that she does this.
ReplyDeleteEdwina
Are you always so negative ? Or is it just jealousy ?
DeleteOld Hollywood glamour here on display!! She looks beautiful!! I love her hair and make up so pretty!! The dress is sensational!!
ReplyDeleteAnd then comes Maxima... Her looks are very joyful but her beauty comes mostly from the way she does things - with happiness. 💃
ReplyDeleteWow perfection!
