  1. Not a fan of the overall idea of Mary`s gown. The stuff around her neck and shoulders looks more wrapped than draped. Too tight and too high up on the neck. I don´t mind the uneven hem as the length difference between front and back is just enough to showcase the shoes (rather than half of her legs). The tiara is beautiful.
As for Mette-Marit: Wonderful fresh and spring-like design, but I don´t like the seam around her hips and I think everything´s overall a bit snug on her.
Sonja´s gown is good (vibrant, flattering, good swing) but it´s so recognisable that it´s difficult to repeat. It looks dated as well like honestly most of her gowns. Sorry to say, but I think she needs a couple of new dresses, even though I commend her for reusing.
I love Astrid, I think she looks great here. She´s my winner for the night. I also like the way she´s positioned her orders.
Lastly, I really enjoy seeing Hakan in his uniform. Because it FITS (contrary to pretty much all of his suits).

Agree with all your comments, Vanessa. And, as I've noted before, it baffles me why QS, who is so stylish in her everyday clothes, almost never wears stylish evening dresses to me.

Haakon fits all his suits. He's as Frederik and Daniel who also are criticised for their suits uses the latest fashion, not old men's suits. Like it or not.

I don’t agree that Queen Sonja is dated. The gown is a tribute to the late Danish designer Erik Mortensen. How many of us can wear a 30 year old gown with such panache? The chemistry between the older and younger generation of Royals is heartwarming to watch! KC

  4. It's now the turn of the Norwegian Royal Family to host the new Danish monarchs and once again it is so lovely to see the close bond these royal houses share.

Just as I had hoped Queen Mary made her debut tonight wearing the Danish Pearl Poire tiara (and the parure's earrings) and she stole the show!!!! Her hairstyle complements her tiara perfectly and I love her purple/grayish gown. Once again I name her best dressed of the night!

I think Queen Sonja looks lovely here. I believe one of her first outtings in this dress was to the swedish royal Wedding of the Corwn Princess couple and since then I absolutely love it. I do wish she would have paired it with other jewels. The emeralds with the coral plus the blue sash is a little much.

I had really hoped hopes for Crown Princess Mette Marit tonight, but her look was a bit disappointing. Given the importance of this particular state visit I really thought she would wear something memorable like the dark red dress she debuted in her gala portrait. I do like her skirt it screams "springtime", but I don't think it looks good with that top.

And it is always a joy to see Princess Astrid participating in state visits and other tiara events. A classy lady indeed!

Oh, what a wonderful night! Great dresses, fantastic tiaras. They all look happy together, the best thing to watch. I particularly like Queen Sonja's dress, the top half of Queen Mary's dress and the bottom half of crown princess Mette-Marit's outfit.

I do find the setup of the group picture a bit odd. I understand Kings and Queens should be centered, but it's a bit strange that Haakon and Mette-Marit look a bit abandonded. Another setup must have been possible, even with princess Astrid seated.

QM: Nice to see the big gun pearl tiara on Mary, with the earrings. And pastel blue and pearls are always a good combo. But the gown - skirt and top - are like the one she wore in Sweden: same design. Order to her personal seamstress/tailor: make me the same top and skirt in every colour and fabric, and when I need variation, add som lace and/or pearls and/or sequins and/or embroidery. Endless combinations, yes, but predictable nonetheless.
QS: Looks like an orange big bird.
CPMM: Looks lovely in rewear, good choices.
PAstrid: Lovely and vibrant classy lady. Always nice to see her.

More than any of the gowns, it is the warm, genuine smiles between all of them that I'm really loving today. This is family and they don't need to dress to impress anyone. The jewels and tiaras are definitely not over the top, but are sufficient to set just the right tone of congeniality. No complaints here about that. Just lovely.

  10. Oh, my. Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! I love all the gowns and jewels, the gentlemen look splendid in their uniforms and decorations, and everyone is radiating enjoyment. The tonal interplay among the Norwegian ladies' gowns is luscious, and Mary's pale blue-grey adds a moderating cool note that coordinates with the sashes. -- Jane

Q Mary looks stunning. Love the Tiaras of all the RL. Never seen this orange gown from Q Sonja before, I know she has a yellow one. MM the top is nice, the pattern of the skirt is delicate, if made different it would be nicer? I must say it is such a treat so see Pss Astrid. I like her Tiara this time. Mette-Marit has a unique sense of style, I think. Her flowered, tiered skirt is pretty for the season but the white top seems rather wintry. Mary's bodice is very creative and unusual. I like it!

Everyone looks very festive, and the jewels are exquisite, but I don't understand CP Mette Marit wearing a blazer instead of a dressy top with her print skirt. The white is too stark against the pastel pinks of the skirt, and the shape is altogether too business-like and not an appropriate match for a formal event. S.M.

Queen Mary wore this dress in Sweden at Prince Carl Philips wedding. Probably other times as well. She has changed the top part and added the chiffon layer and I find this look stunningly elegant. Love the Pearl Poirée tiara . Queen Sonia's salmon dress must be3 about 30 years old and ist is still very beautiful. I don´t like the Emerald tiara because of the square stones. Otherwise she looks great.

Mary in a reworked Birgit Hallstein. Even QS reuses her dress for the n time from the Danish designer Erik Mortrnsen. Her all time favourite. Good job. Clothes should be used. They look great. Nothing special at this state banquet.
QM : The light blue color is not bad but not on her. As a brunette she needs warmer colors. I do not like the draping part over her shoulders. The skirt of the dress has creases.
MM : odd combination which I do not like
QS : one of her old gala dresses I suppose. The color is good.
Jewelry : old and not always matching the dress. It looks like Queen Margrethe's favorite tiara has been cleaned, it looks more shiny and brighter than before. I must say it matches the light blue of the dress very well.

QM is wearing a dress from 2015 and altered.
I can't quite put a finger on it but her face has changed over the last years and her skin has a artificial glow over it. Her skin landscape has changed so to speak. Maybe also skin alteration because the skin next to her eyes has swollen up ( " the eyes are sunken in it")
I hope she can reduce the injections because the naturel look will disappear.
And she has such a beautiful face.

I like Mary’s gown and especially the wrap around her shoulders. The tiara is gorgeous and suits her dark hair. But her make up seems a bit off…a little heavy and she looks a bit tired. But overall she looks quite lovely.
Queen Sonja looks fantastic in her floaty, salmon colored gown and the emeralds in her tiara are just perfect for a complete look.
Mette Marit is certainly eclectic in her style and taste. The white top and floral skirt are fine individually but together they don’t work in my opinion. She has a lovely, warm smile.

QS- The emeralds are truly breathtaking.Though I wonder if the color of her gown was the perfect choice to showcase them.
CPMM- It’s seems a tale of two looks.A dress and a jacket. The jury still out on that.
