Back to bad hair days, and clothing that does not fit the occasion, especially, the woman standing to the right of the king. The white poufy blouse with chest pockets does not match the formal material type skirt. Max's hair should have been pulled back in a low pony tail, or bun. Do not like the high/low hemline. Out of fashion, and sloppy appearing. Nice smile though. Clarice

    1. "The woman standing to the right of the king" is his sister-in-law Princess Laurentien. The Dutch RF are known to be quirky dressers occasionally. Those bigger puff sleeves seem to have come into fashion recently. As they were 190 years ago.

I don't know what to say...so better to write..
Maxima is rather ok, the top IS lovely, hair as usual.
Laurentien blah and rough looking from the upper-side, no need to mess with hair gel.
I quit like her skirt and blouse but together it is too boxy. I love the white-gold combination but is going over the top with the neck-lace looks so chained ( where is the leash)?
    Very nice sandals and purse-Anna-

    1. @ Anna - Taking into account Princess Laurentin's zany fashion likes, , the necklace is probably a bit of chain she found somewhere. 😁

  4. The first thing that I noticed was that Max is dressed in the colors of The Ukraine.
I wonder if this is a statement or just a coincidence.
A pity that her hair is so straggly looking for such an event.

The Dutch royal ladies are a cheerfully colorful exception among the more conservative dressers among the royal flock. I love both ladies, the dresses were very approriate for the occasion and the color combinations are just lovely. 💛

I agree. This is a fun and relaxed event (meaning not high on formality) and both their outfits fit in well with this way of thinking.

QM: nice blouse, great color but not in combination with the skirt (non matching colors, style, fabric …). PL: really ? Ugly dogcollar, too flashy skirt ( I like metallooking shiny fabrics, but not this ‘ carnaval thing’. Ok blouse but not in combination with the skirt. Nice shoes and bag.
    Both awful hairdo…

  7. I think we should take into account that people are dressed for a fun day, a celebration of the King's birthday.
Princess Laurentien missed a good opportunity here to wear her Christmas tree decorations-cum-earings as she seems to do on many occasions.
Love Princess Laurentien’s clutch and shoes.
Would love to see a closeup of her shoes.
QueenMax’s outfit fits in well with the fun and gayness of the occasion. She is staying faithful to her “shabby-chic” hairdo.
To pull it off, she needs a bit more volume with her hair.
I’m sure Princess Beatrix must love to death her three daughters-in-law, especially Laurentien and Maxima.
Princess Mabel is the quiet one of the three and since the death of her husband about 10 years ago, I think she may have moved back to London and most certainly is busy with her human rights work. .
I’m sure that when the three daughters-in-law get together with their mother-in-law, Princess Beatrix, it must be “party time”.

  8. Voyons donc ; je pourrais préfèrer la jupe de Maxima sans son asymétrie ; portée avec ce haut jaune bouton d'or, elle aurait plus d'allure !

Maxima wow. Great colour combination end model. Elegant, chique
Like the blouse and shoes of Laurentien but not the pompous golden skirt

QM: I like the colour combination, I like the top. I even like the skirt somehow, but the combination somehow doesn't work. Hair in an updo would have uplifted this outfit, and standing more straight would also make a great difference.
Laurentien: I don't like this outfit, but still somehow she pulls it off. I like the skirt more than the blouse. It's a very risky combination. Mostly I'm fan of her shoes, wonderful shoes!

Princess Laurentien's white blouse makes me think at the blouse of Olena Zelenska when she has been received by Queen Mary. Both blouses had too big sleeves.

  13. I agree with @09:28 and @09:38(except for the sandals). As for `dressed for a fun day` the King and his mother obviously did not get the memo! PL, and QM - awful, and there can be no acceptable excuse for `bad hair` considering wealth and access to the best advice, imo.

Prince Constantijn is not very visible on the pictures. I see him in the last two pictures in the back row on the left.
