On April 8, 2024, The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh attended a parade to commemorate the 120th anniversary of The Entente Cordiale at Buckingham Palace in London. On behalf of King Charles III, The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh inspected 32 members of the 1st and 2nd Infantry regiments of the Garde Republicaine and 40 guardsmen from F Company Scots Guards, lined up opposite their French counterparts.
The event marks the first time a country from outside the Commonwealth has taken part in the Changing of the Guard on the forecourt of Buckingham Palace. In London, the ceremony was watched by The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, while in Paris, French President Emmanuel Macron observed the Parade.
The Entente Cordiale was a series of agreements signed by France and the United Kingdom in 1904. This was not a formal alliance between the two countries, but served as a basis for a stronger Anglo-French relationship.
Sophie was so charming recently in a knee length dress: swinging and modern. This dress is again way too long. It's a pity that such a lovely lady wears these kind of dresses. The coat as well ( see the model) should be at the calves and not at your feet.
ReplyDeleteAgree !!
Deletei agree, especially after that Easter knee length dress we know she has no scars to hide, these overly long dresses are not necessary.
DeleteTo 06.20. i have some scars after operations and i do not hide them. Why should i or anybody do that?

Totally agree. The long dresses and coat are not flattering for her frame. They always give the impression that she is smaller than she really is. It would be so interesting to know why she is always choosing this ankle length.
DeleteI love Sophie's hair today. The coat looks lovely buttoned up. It's rare to see these non-flared, pencil styled long coats these days. Her too-long-as-usual dress shows some pretty promise as well.

The thought of the two countries' guards doing the ceremonies together makes me smile. (There were British troops in Paris, too.)
ReplyDeleteI’m starting with a positive. Her smile is so joyful and she always looks happy to be at an event.
ReplyDeleteI don’t know why Sophie wears these overly long garments! All you see is a head and feet. Sophie has a beautiful figure,I don’t know why she finds the needs to swaddle it up. Her hair looks a little unkempt today. The strand dangling is distracting. Overall not one of her better looks.
J apprécie beaucoup cette Duchesse. Très élégante ici même si je trouve sa tenue un soupçon trop longe, question de goût.

Stunning Sophie, she looks way younger than her years here - great hairstyle, elegant colours and cut of the dress and coat. Beauty comes from within and this is true for this lady - 10/10. Edward looking smart too! JJ
ReplyDeleteIdiot! She can wear anything she likes, she's a Duchess and you are ? Not!
DeleteI don´t like the dress. It is too long and pulls across the upper body. Great wool coat!
ReplyDeleteHer dress was too long. She is a beautiful woman and has alovely figure. Even the Queen didn't wear her dresses that long.
DeleteThe pale blue dress from what I can see is beautiful, pretty color and elegant. Her coat looks snug and warm, must be still quite chilly.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised she went with such a pale color. I've definitely seen her in better dresses. I don't mind the length as much as the fit on top.
ReplyDeleteSophie’s dress looks like it may have nice detailing near the left shoulder, but it is obscured by the coat. I don’t think this coat worn unbuttoned looks the best with this dress. I really like her purse. Nice hairstyle except the loose piece at the front.

Sophie est élégante même si je trouve le manteau aussi long que la robe ; j'aime voir la manière dont ses cheveux sont coiffés !
ReplyDeleteShe looks spot on. Great looking coat. Also nice updo. css
ReplyDeleteI like both the dress and the coat but unfortunately, leaving the coat unfastened gives a sloppy appearance to a formal event. The coat also appears to be too big for the Duchess.

Entente Cordiale is pretty significant ;if people care to read the history.Sophie looks good.Vive la Englaise.(Tara)
ReplyDeleteIf you wish to speak French it is "Vive la Anglaise" (I am not French speaking myself).
DeleteActually it is "Vive les Anglais" or "Vve l'Angleterre
DeleteActually it is "Vive les Anglais" or "Vive l'Angleterre" but who cares 😅
Delete@ Anonymous 13:02
DeleteOoh ! I thought Tara said it to Sophie. Ha ! Ha ! It came just after "Sophie looks good. Vive la Englaise" she wrote. Of course it must be Vive les Anglais, Vive l'Angleterre. I care.
The coat is nice but otherwise this outfit is a total snooze. Nothing interesting to catch the eye, it’s all beigeish and bland.
ReplyDeleteCoat needs to be buttoned to give it shape
ReplyDeleteSophie looks fabulous! Love her coat and dress and her hairstyle is gorgeous--so elegant. Yes, everything is too long--its obvious Sophie likes her dresses and coats this way so its not really worth complaining about until I get fed up with her choice again. The pale blue of the dress is a perfect color for her and helps highlight her aquamarine (?) earrings. Would love to see the dress on its own as it looks to be perfectly fitted too.

This would b perfect if the dress and coat were 3-4 inches shorter. Sophie is very petite so the length on her clothes should be adjusted accordingly. Those designer outfits are generally geared toward taller women but, I will say that I love the cream and soft blue on her. It’s very flattering for her coloring and blue makes her eyes stand out.
ReplyDeleteEspecially Max Mara is designed for tall women. Each time I had the opportunity to buy something from that brand at a reduced price, I was disappointed . Being short myself I cannot wear this brand. But there are other beautiful brands which short women can wear too.
DeleteStrange that Sophie wears this coat unbuttoned as the cut of it, and the occasion, asks for a buttoned, more formal, worn coat.
ReplyDeleteThe light colour I love, makes her very sweet.
I know why she did not buttoned up her coat. The skirt of the light blue dress is wide and flared, the coat is pencil style. If one close the buttons of the coat there is too much dress under it and it would have looked odd.
DeleteDuchess Sophie : too long coat and dress. Her hairstyle is "house made". She looked so pretty lately in that purple coat and loose hair, why is she keeping these long clothes ? This time she wears a beautiful handbag (from what I can see of it).
ReplyDeleteThe handbag is from Strathberry, duchess Meghan wore a bag from this brand at one of her first official apperances. anna e.
DeleteI saw a report on TV, when Sophie was moving it looked like she had just rushed off in her housecoat, it's all a bit big and looks unfinished
ReplyDeletewe would also say: intentional, but not skilful
For all those who say Sophie’s dress is “too long”, that she mostly wears “too long” dresses, I think we might now conclude that she ENJOYS the length! She certainly has the money for hem alterations if she chose to have them shortened, but as she consistently doesn’t, I think it means she likes dressing like this. Imagine that! (Grace)
ReplyDelete"Imagine that"? Better not ;))
DeleteAlthough I like Sophie she looks messy coat and dress too long hair unkept but her sweet smile makes it up.
ReplyDeleteWill stray from fashion comments: Both Edward and Sophie have great smiles. Nice to see them able to work together instead of each one in different places at the same time.
ReplyDeleteEdwina
Sophie prefers longer clothes, although I do think she looks good wearing a shorter length. The colours are good, and her hair styled for a windy day but I do think the coat should have been buttoned, a more formal look was needed. Edward looks very good and healthier than of late.
ReplyDeleteSophie looks great! The dress color complements her and the fit is perfect. The length is classy and dignified. The coat is tres chic and I like that she wore it open so the dress can be seen.

Taking a second look at these pictures, I am wondering if Sophie is wearing a ring on her left thumb? Would love to get a closer look.
ReplyDelete-Royal Watcher
Yes, she is wearing a ring on her left thumb. It seems to be very "in" these days. (Elina)
