On April 6, 2024, King Carl Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden attended SVT's tribute event for Abba at Cirkus in Stockholm. Today marks the 50th anniversary of ABBA's famous win at the Eurovision Song Contest, which elevated the Swedish pop group to international fame. Abba won the European music competition with their smash hit Waterloo on April 6 1974 at Brighton Dome’s Concert Hall.
ABBA were a Swedish pop supergroup formed in Stockholm in 1972 by Agnetha Faltskog, Bjorn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. The group's name is an acronym of the first letters of their first names arranged as a palindrome.
The King and Queen both look very good. I watched this on TV and they seemed to enjoy themselves very much. The green pant suit was perfect for the event and it looked a lot better than in these pictures. Hearing Dancing Queen must have evoked happy memories for them. For those of you too young to remember, there was a televised gala concert at the Royal Opera on the night before their wedding. Lots of "serious" music and then ABBA performed Dancing Queen to the delight of the royal couple and every one else. That night was the first time Silvia Sommerlath wore a tiara, the Connaught Diamond tiara.

Perfect for KCG and Queen Silvia to attend a special concert for ABBA! I still remember them singing "Dancing Queen" for Silvia at one of the pre-wedding celebrations in 1976. Have read that Silvia loves the song and has even said she tries to dance every time she hears the song. She looks wonderful here in her bright green.

ردحذفI like Queen Silvia's green pants but not the jacket. It looks a bit too shiny and outdated. For a concert she could have worn a top or a jacket with a modern look.
Queen Silvia looks wonderful in her "ABBA suit", so playful and bold. I can almost see the king smiling.
