On April 8, 2024, King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain attended the funeral mass of Fernando Gomez-Acebo de Borbon at the Cathedral of the Armed Forces (Castrense) in Madrid. Fernando Gomez-Acebo passed away on 1 March 2024 at the age of 49. Fernando Gomez-Acebo was the son of Infanta Pilar, King Juan Carlos' sister. He was the youngest of the five children of Infanta Pilar and Luis Gomez-Acebo.

She left them in her will to be passed from monarch to monarch of Spain, and they are worn only by the Queen of Spain. This brooch, a grey pearl surrounded by diamonds with another pendant grey pearl, came to Queen Victoria Eugenie from her husband’s aunt, Infanta Isabella.
