A new photo of Princess Benedikte has been released on her 80th birthday

On Monday, 29 April 2024, Her Royal Highness Princess Benedikte celebrates her 80th birthday. On the occasion of Princess Benedikte's 80th birthday on 29 April 2024, a new photo of Princess Benedikte are published. The photo was taken in Christian VIII's Palace at Amalienborg. on 2 May, Princess Benedikte will host a reception in the Great Hall of Rosenborg Castle for The Princess’s patronages.

Princess Benedikte of Denmark was born during the Second World War during the reign of her grandfather, Christian X. The Princess was the second child of Crown Prince Frederik (IX) and Crown Princess Ingrid, and Frederik VIII’s Palace at Amalienborg was the setting of The Princess’s childhood and adolescence.

As a 22-year-old, Princess Benedikte became engaged to Prince Richard zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg in March 1967. The wedding took place the following year at Fredensborg Palace Church. After the wedding, the couple settled in the north-western German city of Bad Berleburg at Schloss Berleberg, the birthplace of Prince Richard.

Princess Benedikte and Prince Richard became the parents of Prince Gustav in 1969, of Princess Alexandra in 1970, and, five years later, of Princess Nathalie. After 49 years of marriage, Prince Richard died in 2017.
