On March 11, 2024, the European Commission and the Spanish government organized an event in Madrid to mark the 20th European Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Terrorism. King Felipe and Queen Letizia attended the event that took place at the Royal Collections Gallery (Galería de las Colecciones Reales) in Madrid.
The European Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Terrorism is an annual event that commemorates the victims of terrorism worldwide.
This remembrance day was established after the Madrid bombings that occurred on 11 March 2004. The explosions killed 193 people and injured around 2,050. Every year since 2005, the EU remembers on this date the victims of terrorism worldwide.
