I don't know why Queen Mathilde wore home clothes and a bathrobe on her business trip. I look in vain for any sign of elegance, but I find none on Mathilde or the other ladies present. The best dressed are the bodyguards and the man in the suit and tie.

If you arrive late in the evening you are not going to start the working visit already. The outfit she is wearing is ideal upon arrival and meet with the Minister of Planning and Development of the Republic of Cote d'Ivoire. Tomorrow the real working visit will start (has started yet).

    2. @Stephanie,. Forget about elegance.
In a hot country like the Ivory Coast, it's comfort and style.

Tough assessment Stephanie! In my short experience in Abidjan, there is great poverty, and fabrics are important (there’s a renowned bold-coloured African fabrics market there) … so from my perspective, Mathilde arriving in her capacity as UN advocate has arrived wearing a very appropriate outfit. - AnneLise

    4. I'm with you, Stephanie. While accepting the need for comfort and lightweight fabrics, there's no need to sacrifice style. The choice of coat may be meant as a courtesy to her hosts but it has definite dressing gown vibes. Looking forward to the rest of her outfits on this visit.

Very nice and interesting coat. The whole outfit looks cool and comfortable. Matching the sofa must have been unintentional but it becomes a pretty picture.

Beautiful coat, but an awkward-looking combination with what was underneath. A sheath dress the same length as the coat would have been best. — Jane

Wide, loose fitting pants (probably silk) are very comfortable in hot weather and she just got off an airplane

@ Jane. No, no dress. With a dress the look would be boring.

  5. The free fittin coat is a rewear.
The Queen wore it in 2023 during a visit to Bangladesh for a meeting with the organisation Sustainable Development Goals, or SDGs.
Aarong is a fashion group specialising in Bengali ethnic wear and handicrafts.
Aarong's works with artisans to give Bangladesh's rural poor an opportunity to earn an income in areas where employment opportunities were limited, especially for women.
The company started in 1978.They have retail shops in many countries.

Looked up different websites with images of her working visit for the UN to Bangladesh in 2023 but on none of the images Queen Mathilde wore this coat. From Jelka who is following Queen Mathilde on all her visits inside Belgium and abroad and her activities in the Royal Palace where she invites and meets all kind of people, I understood that she probably bought this coat when she was in Bangladesh in 2023. I would not be surprised because she bought fabrics when she was on state visit in Congo too. After a while one could see her in cotton dresses made by Odile Jacobs an African designer who works in Belgium. If you know where I could find a photo of Queen Mathilde with this coat on in Bangladesh in 2023, I would like to receive a webb address or an image I can find on the social media. Thx.

The information about her coat (rewear) came from another royal site in French.
If you need help with the French, just do a Google translation.
NOTE: I don’t want to give the name of the site/blog in fairness to Helen for all the work she does for us.
Could the insert photo of Queen Mathilde walking down the steps of the plane be the photo from 2023 ?

No, the photo of Queen Mathilde walking down the steps of the airplane is from this year. There are pictures of the welcome committee and the plain when she steps down. Queen Mathilde wore a new hanbag by Clio Goldbrenner which she did not had last year. Also the yellow top and pants are new. ) On another site I read that Queen Mathilde bought this silk coat in Bangladesh in 2023, which I think this could be true because she does that each time when she is visiting local markets or ethnic groups of people who are making something typical like Queen Maxima did when she bought handbags made by the people of Colombia.

Looks like Mr Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson should be called in.
Whatever, I for one, like the coat and think it’s a good choice for the occasion.

La reine Mathilde porte des nouvelles boucles d'oreilles dorées en forme de coeur. Peut-être un cadeau reçu pour son Saint-Valentin ?

Since she is an UN Special Advocate for Sustainable Development, one would hope her wardrobe was chosen carefully and doesn't include anything frivolous. I like the dress. The duster is a bit of a surprise, but still nice. Christine

Sorry but I think Stephanie has a point (even if it is harsh). I just can't find anything exciting about this outfit or the color palette that the Queen chose. Better luck tomorrow!

Lovely jacket! Vibrant print with beautiful colors. Queen Mathilde looks wonderful here--and she's coming off a long flight too. I love the soft buttery yellow background of Mathilde's blouse and trousers because they allow this beautiful jacket to be focus. As for those who are saying this looks like a housecoat--if that's a housecoat I want one exactly like it!
