    3. thanks for the info @deadeggs i used to think she was a commoner

    4. @missy "Queen Mathilde a commoner "
      On the contrary.
      Queen Mathilde’s father was a Count and her mother a Countess.
      I think her mother is still alive.
      She lived with her parents in the Château de Losange in Belgium.

      @Missy
      If you wish to know the complete and correct story of Queen Mathilde's origin you simply google Wikipedia and type the name of Mathilde d'Udekem d'Acoz which is Queen Mathilde's family name.

      @deadeggs
      The oldest noble families among the Belgians (Belgium didn't exist yet and was geographically called the Southern part of The Netherlands) are : the "de Ligne", "de Mérode", "de Lannoye", "de Trazegnies", "d'Arenberg" and a few more. They were part of the Provisional Comittee who ruled the new land "Belgium" in 1830. None of these families were interested to deliver a king for the new land. The history of Leopold I of Sachsen Coburg & Gotha, who finally became the first king of the Belgians is well known.

    All three of them look great, they seem to have fun together. Elisabeth looks fantastic in this blue pantsuit. Isn't Jigsaw the brand Catherine used to work for? Mr. Obama's vest looks slightly too big. King Philippe's double breasted costume looks a bit dated compared to the others, in my opinion.
    I bet it's an interesting evening in Puurs.

      King Philippe is wearing his blazer which he has (or he could have more than one) since a long time.

    Stylish suit, although it's almost too blue to my taste -- I'm more at home with the reds and yellows of Máxima's attire a couple of days ago. However, the smile on President Obama's face wins the game here, I think. So nice to see him out and about.

      She has dresses by Natan in which she is very lovely too. Of course she is in her early 20ees now and her choice of clothes is becoming more and more elegant, sophisticated, adult.

      On National Day in Belgium, it is the custom that Queen Mathilde and Crown Princess Elisabeth are wearing a dress by Natan because it has been chosen as a Brand that can make deliveries to the Belgian Court (already since Queen Paola), just like other brands of cookies, chocolates, etc... Lately I heard that Natan is working together with other new brands. One must not forget that the designer behind the brand of Natan, Edouard Vermeulen, is not very young anymore.
      It was his mother who started a fashion boutique (it didn't had the name of Natan yet) for the better class. If I remember correctly Queen Paola was already a client of Natan when she was not a queen yet. In those days nobody knew where the royal ladies of the Belgian court bought their clothes. There were no websites concerning this subject either. Princess/Queen Paola was known for her good taste in the field of fashion. She was also an early client at Armani's.

  8. Omg! What a beautiful choice of suit. Elisabeth looks magnificent! Rich royal blue, sincere enough to meet a global leader, but with a modern feminine youthful touch to it. I just love it!

    Elisabeth looks stunning! Why is Obama there? I read somewhere don't remember where and when, that he wants his wife to be an Ambassador to Belgium the heartbeat of the EU really? g/a

    1. I don't know anything about ambassadorships, though I'd be careful what gossip I paid attention to. As to why he's there, the article says why. I'm sure the conference asked him to come because he's well-known and likely to attract attendees.

      Former President Obama is there probably because he was invited. He is highly regarded in much of Western Europe.

      I doubt if it's anything to do with Michelle who is super busy and respected in her own right.

      Stop believing everything you read specifically if it from Fox "news" , Daily Mail, The Mirror and such...Obama was in Belgium for a moderated debate "An Evening with President Barack Obama" focusing on his vision of the future and the challenges the world is facing. And when dignitaries are visiting a country they get invited to the palaces often for a lunch meeting.

    I’m in the minority on this one, but I think this suit looks too mature for the young princess. I appreciate the interesting cut/design, but the shiny tuxedo accents and matching fabric belt seem more evening (and mature) to me.

      Don't forget she is not a teenager anymore. She is a young woman in her early twenties and she has developed her style slowly but surely. The meeting with Barack Obama is part of her preparation of being the future Queen of the Belgians, just like she has been introduced to King Charles.

  13. Goodness, Elisabeth looks sensational, what a divine outfit. The color is sublime. This would have to be the nicest pantsuit I have seen in a while. We have a better overall view on the model. The jacket is superb, beautiful cut and design. Love the pants. The King looks really good, I love his attire, very elegant.

    @g/a, Mr. Obama is in Belgium to attend & participate on the Supernova Technologies conference in Antwerp, and it looks like he was invited to a quick visit with the Monarch.
    If you enjoy speculating about the motives of the ex president, you should know that he is not able to grant any political positions, and neither is the king. Also I would venture that the last thing on Mrs. Obama’s agenda would be to hold a political appointment 😛

    Proof that you don’t have to spend thousands of Euros on a beautiful, well cut elegant suit. Jigsaw is just an average British high street brand - but in some cases like this one, their tailoring is very good.

    Good choice - and also, great lineage of stylish queens to get inspired by.
