The Duchess of Sussex visited the Southern California Welcome Project for an evening of cooking and storytelling. In collaboration with The Archewell Foundation’s partner, Mina’s List, a group of 15 women gathered to cook traditional Afghan food including Ashak and Mantuu. Since 2014, Mina’s List has been working with women activists and political leaders in Afghanistan to support greater gender equality.

Sorry to read your disappointment about fashion during The Welcome Project get-together in California with the Duchess of Sussex.
If you’ve got the internet, you don’t have to go too far to find some Afghan fashion along with its history.
Interesting to note that the style of traditional Afghan clothing has changed due to several decades of war and the influence of neighbouring countries in the region. Currently, the most common clothing worn by women in Afghanistan is shirts with jeans, a Pakistani and Indian style dress and trousers called a punjabi, along with a matching head scarf.

To support whatever good charity project is a positive thing. And I would say to Meghan go on with that. But as this is a site for royals I do not understand why a duchess is given
the floor. How many duchesses and other nobility people are there in the world? And to end positively Meghan has a very good taste and most of her clothing is wonderful.

Haters gonna be haters, and we can't do anything about the fact that someone just has to embarrass and screw themselves over and over everytime you take a breath. So this page is gonna be a lot of hate, and stupidity as always. Doumb-founded that so-called grown fellow human beings just have to have someone to hate. What does that say about us? Meghan is a lovely woman, supporting a fantastic cause. Can't we talk about that and let the hate rest for once. Please.

Why hide behind such a lame remark? Why don't you come out and say that you hate Meghan? Harry went to Afghanistan as a soldier in the British Army. Not like Harry as a person. From all the countries in the world who are at war, there are people who are leaving as fugitives to another country to save their own life and that of their children. If they are not helped in the USA, Australia, Western Europe, Canada, . . . they will never have a normal life.

Annonymous 14:54, your ignorance is truly stunning and damaging. No, Harry did not go to war against the Afghan people. The UK went to support Afghan people by fighting the Taliban, whose inhuman suppression of women’s rights was worth opposing. Anyone who confuses all of the Afghan people with the Taliban needs to educate themselves. These women cooking with Meghan look very happy to work with her. Meghan is a longtime supporter of women’s rights.

It is you guys who need to educate yourselves about the war in Afghanistan, in Iraq and elsewhere. You think the people there are thankful to the US, UK etc for their constant military intervention/ warmongering? Yeah, right.
I am well aware that not all Afghan people like or are part of the Taliban, however it is always civilians who suffer most in times of war. And guess what, ever since WWII it has not been the Western civilians who have suffered, but people in these countries that they go fight wars in. Very naive if you think it's to help the local population. That's all just war propaganda spread by the US and UK to their own population. But guess what, in other European countries who don't partcipate in that, a lot of us know it's not accurate.
Do women now have a better situation in Afghanistan than before the war? No, they don't. So in terms of women's rights it was for nothing, but of course that was never what the US & UK had in mind in the first place.

Let's see the Duchess of Glouchester (not sure of the spelling) She and her husband and done tons for the British Royal family, no scandal, no whining about not being front and center, just hard working royals who go about their duties. Let's showcase more of the other European Countries 2ndary working royals, long before a NON working royal such as Rachel who has done nothing but become an outspoken critic, fantasize, and say hurtful things about her family, as well as Henry's family, yes that is Harry's real name, Henry. Anonymous 16:00, as another poster intelligently noted above, you seem to be confused between tabloid hate nonsense and what Harry and Meghan actually said. Trash tabloids like The Daily Mail feed on hate clicks and continue to beat this gong. They also pay money for any scurrilous gossip. They have been successfully sued because of this. Harry and Meghan did not ask for privacy. They wanted the attacks and false stories about them to stop but they stated that they wanted to continue to work on causes, and they have done so publicly.

    4. Anon 19:04, who is Rachel?

This is good work for a good and deserving cause. I guess it’s also time to point out that she IS a royal, even though neither she nor Prince Harry use the HRH. Anonymous14/2/24 17:35 You seem to be confused. They recused themselves from royal duty, they did NOT want to be part of the royal family's work. They stated it, they went on nationwide TV with Oprah to state their grievance's with the royal family, have continued to lob word bombs at Harry's family, with The Spare, and 'their take' rather than dealing with facts that happened. They made the choice to step away from royal duty. The Queen instructed them to NOT use their royal titles for profit, and what have they done is trade on the HRH title, Harry had by birth, and Rachel had been been given by marriage. She is not royal, far from it, she is a 2nd rate actress that most of the USA had not heard of till she set her sights on marrying a Prince. Both of them were told, they could not trade on the name/title whatever you call it, and yet they do. This isn't hate, (such a strong word). This is simple facts, they have twisted/turned to their own use, to make some feel sorry for them, and make most of the public see through their actions/attitudes towards the Royal family, and to Rachel's own family. Step out of the shadows and state your name, even if it is fake. It is the least you could have done, per the blog rules at the top of this page. Catrina

Catarina isn't funny that once did Harry's parents exactly the same. They told their stories. Di got the same hate, but Charles who told this got away with it. Poor Charles:"I was being cowed by the forceful personality of my father." He tells that his father bullied him as a child, treated him with “mocking banter,” thought him “a bit of a wimp” and preferred his spunky sister. And this is really the kicker his father forced him, a 32 year old man into a loveless marriage when he forced him to marry Diana. Some spine. He say his mother was cold and too busy being queen to help. So don't come and say this is bad Harry innocent family. They did EXACTLY THE SAME! We learn from our parents. You may not like them. Belive the royal rota which Harry blacklisted after all their lies without having the wit to understand the blacklisted rags agenda against them with some help from the palace. The palace has done to Harry what they did to Diana. This knows everyone with a little bit of memory left. Both Diana and Sarah told us how the court functioned, the lies, backstabbing in the media so certain royals should look good. Exsactly what Harry told us too. So nothing has changed in over 30 years. No we see William and Charles battle for best spotlight in the headlines for most sympathy. As long as the court has different communication unit this battle will continue on. Other royal houses has one unit, and we never see this bullshit only in UK. We don't see leaks from "friends" or "royals sources", but then again they don't have media like the british tabloids who have all the power either. And you might not call it hate or nastiness either, but give us a break you would never, ever say the same had Kate, William or any of the other brits got the same treatment. Just look how nicely you talk about Harry and Meghan. If you and the rest who doesn't want to read about them just skip stories about them, and let the people who want to read about them comment without hate and nastiness the world would be a better place. PS it's funny how people think they can spew out hate and nastiness without understanding this will backfire back at us. Tell the world who we are, and what we stand for as fellow human beings, and how we want to be treated. And yes I have the intelligence to understand that I'm snarky in my comment, but for god sake why do we have to have this conversation every f* time a photo of Meghan and Harry are shared. So do better, and stop the hate. Sarah.

@Anon 2:08 Your comment about them not being working royals blows my mind. Maybe you don't read well? This has been addressed in detail above. Why mention it as though it is a new subject? Are you so desperate to make a negative comment that you will repeat false information that has already been stated and corrected? Also, if you cannot see that this is based on a hatred of them, you need to step back and take a fresh look. The tabloids control these stories that dimwitted people addicted to the drama feed on. The stories are not consistent in their so-called facts, but the subject of the stories is the same. Those needing their next fix of gossip decide it must be true if the tabloids all have a story about the same person. Before Kate's surgery, the stories about Andrew were heating up again due to document dumps. Overnight, they stopped. Suddenly Harry was back in the hot seat. It didn't feel right, but the press can easily be manipulated if the palace asks. Did that happen? Who knows? Do I think they will use a member of the family that is on the outs as a distraction from other stories? Yes. The public is too easily manipulated and eager to believe the dirt that is printed - even when the stories contradict each other!

Well, Anonymous 15/2/24 02:08, I find it odd that someone feels the need to excuse themselves by saying that hate is "only a personal opinion". Add the name of any ridiculed/mocked/disparaged group of people after "I hate" and then say that "it's only an opinion". "I hate Jews", "I hate black people", "I hate women" (there are men that really hate women) and so forth. I think you get my meaning. Does it sound ok to you? A "personal opinion" that at worst can result to hate crimes or make the target feel suicidal isn't worth expressing aloud. You make think so, if it makes you feel better (I'm pretty sure that deep inside it does not make you feel a happier person), but don't pour your poison to the outside world by expressing it aloud. Finally: I feel sorry for you, I really do.

    6. Anonymous15/2/24 21:05

@Anon 13:20 I follow nothing. The stories show up in my "news" feeds. Based on headlines alone, no two organizations has the same set of facts about Harry, but they all have something to say. I refuse to read any of it so I can't say more than that. It is very curious that just as the news was starting to discuss what had been released by the authorities in the Epstein case, and there was reportedly more about Andrew (and others) in the documents, it all stopped and Harry became the focus again. Harry hasn't broken any laws, but Andrew has. My point is that there are people so addicted to this gossip that they are willing to overlook Andrew's known behavior that law enforcement has verified. I guess it is more fun for some people to be a part of a haters group rather than think for themselves. I suppose it is a desire to feel accepted. It is really a sign of weakness to blindly follow where the tabloids lead.

As for the fashion end of things, if this was my blog, I would delete everything that was a personal attack and keep the focus on fashion when posting about Meghan. The comments go too far, in my opinion. Since this isn't my blog, I can only hope that the hate will die down one day. I like when she is posted about because I like her style. It is too bad we have to wade through the comments that hate everything she wears because they hate her to find the genuine comments.

Lovely cause the duchess is purring time into. I agree, the constant criticism of Meghan is intense to say the least. I can imagine what Wallis Simpson would have had to endure if she were around during the age of the internet and social media. This behavior from a royal is not uncommon, it has happened and will happen again in royal history.

Rachel brings the criticism upon herself, just as Harry does. Sad, they could have done a lot of good, but they made their choice.

O dear, here we go again. The same remarks over and over again.
Trust once lost is not easy regained.
The suggestion that Archie didnot get a title because of the colour of his skin, the suggestion they had married two days earlier in the garden, the mocking reverence she made on the Netflix documentary , the suggestion of being suicidal ( meaning: I donot know what to do anymore) were enough for me.

Am I correct in believing that “Rachel”is a pejorative nickname for the Duchess of Sussex?
Ever thought of giving yourself a nickname on Newmyroyals?

We live in an age where Wallis Simpson is suddenly considered a heroine. She was a nazi, friends with high ranking nazi officials, she and her husband met with Hitler etc. Hitler had plan for Edward to be his puppet King in the UK. I'd rather not think about what would have happened to Europe and the world if she and Edward had been Queen & King.

@deadeggs Rachel is the Duchess of Sussex’s first name. She is Rachel Meghan Markle. No idea if she was always known as Meghan or changed it at some point during her childhood

As Anon 07:37 said, trust once lost is not easily regained. I think that mostly sums up the situation Meghan and Harry face. People have difficulty giving them the benefit of the doubt anymore.

Anonymous 15/2/24 02:09, why not use her calling name? The order of someone's names does not always tell which name is their official calling name. In this case we know which one is: it's Meghan. Why not use it?

Funny that was the situation with my mum.
She never used her first name, everybody know her by her second name.

She has always used Meghan. It is the same as Harry never using his given name, Henry. Unfortunately, we have one very salty commenter who thinks we missed her use of Rachel the first time, so she continues to repeat it. When it isn't the zinger you hope it will be the first time, it is best to let it go. Like I always told my children, if you are the only one laughing, it probably wasn't funny. Move on now, sweetie.

It's not disparagement to use someone's first name. People who don't know this is her first name might be confused, but it's not disparagement. Princess Catharina-Amalia of the Netherlands is usually refered to as Amalia. If someone called her Catharina, people who don't know will be confused, but it's not offensive.

The nastiest comments, the passive aggressive and mean, ridiculous and unkind come out on this blog when photos of Meghan are shown. On the whole at all other times this is a kind place with people enjoying each other’s comments and sometimes a little fashion debate. I regret that it becomes full of mean and pointed personal comments with Meghan posts. Stay nice, stay non personal, and above all remember: be kind. - AnneLise

Thanks Rina. I’ve been following this blog for a long long time, and have seen that the nasty and personally attacking commenting really only started when Meghan was set to marry Harry, which brought in a new group of people apparently suddenly interested in royalty. Since that time there are the occasional nasty and culturally inappropriate comments on any other post - with the commenters often defending their meanness by saying it’s an open blog so they have the right to share their opinion (!) - but the passive aggressivity and meanness comes out in full force with posts showing Meghan. It’s such a pity and so unnecessary. - AnneLise

The jealousy and hate are dripping of several messages, I read here. And why suddenly the need to call Meghan, Rachel ?. In fact the people who cannot let it go and cannot stop to spit out their hate are the best publicity you can give her. Because the non haters are intelligent people who are sending their messages too and are proving that hate never can/will solve all the problems. It is not of my concern that her pictures are published on this blog. What harm can somebody do by cooking with other women who had to leave their country to protect themselves? She is not there as a representative of the BRF but as Meghan from Archewell foundation.

Lovely to see Meghan, the King’s daughter in law, featured here. I think her desire to help others is admirable. This reminds me of her Grenfell cookbook initiative. The simple black top looks lovely. Like other commenters I find the viciousness towards her is very worrying and I wish people who feel so strongly against her would simply not comment. I dislike the PoW and simply don’t follow or comment at all, which is more healthy for me and it really doesn’t matter to her that I dislike her. LRB

Lovely to see the King's daughter-in-law, who has no relationship with her father-in-law and has not spend any time with him in years, except maybe hello at Queen Elizabeth's funeral. Lovely to see such royal relations, who don't have any positive relationship with the royals, but are happy to point out these relations, because they help with fame and money making.

Three completely anonymous responses to my initial comment. Wow .. give yourself a name… how do any of you know the. King does not have a relationship with Meghan? How do you know they don’t have weekly chats? Just for the record I wish the PoW no ill will, and I wish her a quick recovery. My point was if you don’t like someone just move on. So many people on here sadly believe the tabloids who have been proved IN COURT to be behaving reprehensibly. Harry and Meghan hold their heads high and work. The Prince of Wales, heir to the throne, is in hiding while the King is ill. He can be a good husband and father and still work.

Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, Lady Louis, Zara, Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece, Princess Olympia of Greece, Princess Tatiana of Greece, Princess Nina of Greece, etc, etc, all get lots of British media coverage as despite being non-working royals. The Greeks (despite a defunct throne) are treated well because of their relationship to Prince Phillip. Did Charles disparage his own family once upon a time? Yes. He painted dreadful pictures of his mother, a reigning monarch & his Dad the consort. His portrayal was profoundly searing. So the British are excellent at history and pro-racism only when it suits the purpose. However, it’s so good to see The Duke & Duchess of Sussex forging ahead in spite of all the vile machinations. Sincerely, Christi.
