This is an unhelpful, troll-like comment on a fashion blog. The entire group of people in these photos, not just Mary, look happy in and smiling in most of the shots. We really do not know what any of them are thinking. The deep blue jewel tone of Mary’s outfit is a flattering color for her. Her hairstyle is also pretty with her face shape. Josephine’s soft pink coat is also lovely on her and suits her age and complexion.

Give us a rest. Mary knew what her role would be when she decided to marry Frederik, just like Kate, Letizia, Maxima, Mathilde and Mette-Marit. Would you use the same comment about them? If not why Mary?

Lovely photos of the whole family and very nice to see Q.Margarethe and P.Benedicte.
I'm wondering - is there any significance to wearing purple on this occasion, since all three senior royal ladies are wearing this colour?

Purple, just like royal blue, is one of the colours historically associated with royalty. It is also one of Queen Mary's best colours, which I think she knows, because she chooses it often...
Queen Margrethe is wearing the same dress she wore when she announced her abdication on TV, that could also be why they chose it... But I think they definitely coordinated the colour.

And both girls are wearing coats previously worn by Queen Mary. The pink one CPM had worn with the matching pink skirt and black top & heels for a very sophisticated look in 2015/16 at a Women’s Conference on Shelters with Queen Maxima. What a great closet for the girls to shop. All 3 coats look great and with the added flower Josephine’s is so teen appropriate.

I saw a close-up of the new queen, and the jewelry she is wearing doesn't go together at all. Total clash of style and color of the earrings, two necklaces and a brooch. On top a very heavy face up. BTW does Frederik wear an M tattoo or necklace?

To my eyes, the colour doesn't actually suit a brunette like Mary at all. But otherwise it's lovely to see the whole family there and the teens borrowing their mother's clothes.

I think darker, jewel toned colors suit a brunette like Mary better than pastels. Pastels tend to wash Mary out in my pinion.

I'm a similar brunette myself and purple -- especially the colder shade of purple as in these photos -- makes me look like a zombie, and the same goes for blue, too. The cold colours just clash with my own warmer shades, and the result is not flattering at all. You begin to look pale and your hair looks suddenly almost greyish, as is the case with Mary here too. Warmer, even fiery colours or more earthy tones would suit Mary much better. (No pastels or greys either, heaven forbid! :-) ) But perhaps there were other factors behind her choice of colour here.

Mary, purple and a pillbox hat - it doesn't get much better than that. Lovely ensemble and the shawl looks quite elegant with it. Frederik looks smashing, too. Being king suits him and it makes me very, very happy that he can grow into the role without having to grieve his mother at the same time. I'm happy that we see the tradition of "ruling until the last breath" being broken more often these days. That being said, it's lovely to see Margrethe is still out and about and while I do wish her a fulfilling retirement, I hope she never fully disappears from the scene. And oh my, Benedikte - she's definitely up there with Mary fashion-wise. What a gorgeous cape! I'm also glad the girls got to wear coats. Looking at Christian and Vincent in just their suits makes me shiver, to be honest. Great family outing overall!

QMar looks stunning! Her purple outfit is beautiful and the color is perfect on her. Its wonderful to see QMarg and PBenedikte--also wearing purple. They look great and QMarg has such a happy smile. Isabella looks very pretty in her mom's blue Prada coat--I have always loved that pale blue coat on Mary and I think it looks wonderful on Isabella too. Josephine is certainly pretty in pink and I believe the coat also belongs to her mother. What lucky girls having a chance to "shop" in their mom's closet! Christian and Vincent look handsome in their blue suits while King Fred is super handsome in his uniform.

I was pleased to see QM re-wear this coat dress. Its a slightly different shade to the hat.The dress is a more cool toned purple. Not a criticism more an observation.
The young princesses wearing their Mothers coats keeps the re-wear policy going in the family.I’m sure we’ll see Vincent in Christian clothing in time.
QM2 looks cosy and warm.Though I was surprised to see her brave the weather. If anyone deserves a day in front of the fire it’s her!

Anon 22:20. Josephine drowning in her coat, Isabella's also too big? On another forum a commenter criticized that it was one size to small. I guess, we all see what we want to see and if it is criticizing one wants to do, then nothing will be good enough. To me, they all look great. Lucy

  21. I’m not feeling the navy blue with purple. That notwithstanding, Queen Mary looks happy. Her hair is styled beautifully with the pillbox hat. The boys look smart in their respective suits and both girls look stylish with their colorful coats. King Frederick is always handsome in uniform. It was nice to see Queen Margarethe and Princess Benedikte out as well. Both lovely in royal purple.

  22. Mary is a winter toning so therefore the jewel colours suit her perfectly, it is the pastel pinks and greys that do not suit her. It is going to be so fun and interesting to see the fashion evolution of Queen Mary and the princesses. Right now, I'll be wondering, "What special touch did she make to elevate this from Crown Princess to Queen?" For this ensemble, it seems the color and the cape is quite dramatic as well. All look lovely, however. You can see the children are really enjoying this as well, which is nice.
