King Jigme Khesar and Queen Jetsun Pema name their daughter Sonam Yangden

King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, Queen Jetsun Pema, Princess Sonam Yangden, Crown Prince Jigme and Prince Ugyen

The third child of King Jigme Khesar and Queen Jetsun Pema has been named "Sonam Yangden Wangchuck". Sonam is a Bhutanese name meaning merit, longevity and good fortune. The name Yangden, meaning precious jewel, signifies prosperity and wellbeing. Princess Sonam Yangden was born on September 9 this year.

The naming ceremony took place at Tashichhodzong on the anniversary of King Jigme Khesar’s accession to the Golden Throne in 2006. The Princess is third in the line of succession to the throne. She comes after her older brothers, Crown Prince Jigme Namgyel and Prince Ugyen Wangchuck.

  8. Absolutely gorgeous--the clothes, the pagentry, and the beautiful baby princess! The Queen is a stunning woman--every time I see her I am struck by her beauty. She and the King have a lovely family. The photo of the little princess looking at her father is so sweet and the photo of the Queen cuddling her baby daughter is precious.
