  1. All of the ladies look lovely, I especially like how elegant Crown Princess Mary's curtsey is. I also like the hat she is wearing with her coat more than the previous one!

Non mi piace la riverenza di Mary, troppo profonda e scende quasi a terra.
Per il resto concordo con te.

I agree with yr remarks on the clothing. But Mary's curtsey ( yes protocol) and curtseys in general are imv not very contemporary anymore. Why not just shake hands

She is almost sitting down on her knees. Is that still necessary in these modern times ? Lucky not all royals are doing that anymore when they visit each other.

In Spain curtseys were abolished by King Felipe.

The curtsey is ridiculous and almost not done in modern times just making her central point and not the receiver.

      Yes, agreed.
This is the typical curtseying style Danish Royal ladies have to stick to..
This happens when royals belong to different ranks.
Mary is a Crown Princess so she has to curtsey to Felipe who is a king.
When a Princess has to curtsey in front of a Queen , including Queen Margrethe,, she first kisses the Queen on both cheeks and then she curtseys like in Pic 3.
It is a typical Danish way of curtseying, with the lower rank royal lady keeping her eyes up looking towards the King/ Queen (literally eyes to eyes!) all the time and quickly go down on one knee parallel to the ground while the other knee is kept down higher.
All this happens in a few seconds and is dictated by the traditional Danish protocol.
Fashion- wise , Mary is magnificent in this forest green shade and this combo hat+ low ponytail is absolutely glamorous!
I also Luke Q.Letizia's winter white coat.
Q.Margreth iis lovely as always and the two gentlemen look well groomed and handsome.

To the person saying that curtseying isn’t contemporary, isn’t the whole joy of watching the royals watching the old manners, the rituals and traditions, the pomp and circumstance?! That’s the part I love and I’m so glad they are holding strongly on to the royal traditions! - AnneLise

Princess Anne is another one known for her very deep curtsies. I also think that this particular protocol is a backward step in the modern world of equality that people have struggled to achieve. It was a different system of governance centuries ago, but not now.

That low curtsy looks like groveling.

I cannot get the image of Letizia out of my head, in a low curtsy to Juan Carlos at her sister's funeral. She was grief stricken but still in a curtsy as he helped her up.

I would never expect that the Danisch royals are sticking to curtsy when the Spanish have abolished it.

Sartorially speaking, this is an auspicious beginning for the state visit. Everyone, men and women, looks good, with excellent tailoring, fitting, and fabrics to the fore. I will say I think HMQ Margrethe’s suit is fabulous - the color is gorgeous and the drape of the fabric is beautiful. I’m guessing this could be a silk/cashmere blend, but I’m not knowledgeable enough about fabrics to be sure. I also really the three hats seen here.

Editing my own comment to say, based on other pics I’ve seen, maybe HRH CP Frederick’s coat isn’t quite as well-fitting as I originally thought. But it’s still a nice choice for him, style- wise - it just needs a bit of tweaking from his tailor.

I love winter white and Queen Letizia´s coat is beautiful. CP Mary and P Benedicte are also wearing very nice coats and hats. The Queen looks great in her pink ensemble. Looking forward to pictures from dinners. Will we see tiaras?

To me QL's coat seems a size too large (see pic 4) though the colour suits her very well. I consider PM's dress a bit gloomy, but maybe that's because of the light.

The ladies are dressed very well…beautiful coats and flattering colors! I especially like Mary’s hat. King Felipe is perfectly dressed in impeccably tailored pieces, as usual. On the other hand, Frederik looks a mess with poorly fitted pants and standing like a teenager.

Frederik in general has perhaps never been told/instructed to improve the way he walks, & his clothes never seem to fit well & look rumply. Some people are simply like that in general, but a bit of gentle persuasion would make a difference in the way he presents himself. Joachim, on the other hand, is more "regal" in his clothes & demeanor. |Melanie|

Yes! In the past, I have commented on Frederik's standing/sitting with his legs splayed apart. Many on this post chastised me for my comment, so I'm glad that you also mentioned the "teenage stance"! Fashion-wise, Letitia's white coat is sublime!

It's a solid start for this visit and individually, I like all outfits. Letizia looks wonderful in red and it pairs well with the lovely coat. I LOVED Mary's outfit outside - the green is lush and the hat suits her. But inside... it looks strange, because Letizia clearly took her coat off while Mary didn't. And the lighting makes everything look so dark, like she's heading to a funeral. That's not her fault and doesn't make the outfit any less pretty, just less suited for the occasion. Margrete on the other hand can just about get away with her pink ensemble - it looks enough like a suit to match both the indoor and outdoor setting. Looking forward to seeing more!

  9. Queen Letizia's coat is lovely as is the red dress underneath. CP Mary's coat is well fitted and looks fabulous, love the brooch, very effective, placement is perfect. King Felipe as always looks well groomed, his clothing is always perfect, fits well and he looks beautifully attired, always. Frederick's coat in some photos I have seen looks a size too small for him.

Queen Letizia’s coat with matching dress and shoes is a very refined, elegant look, and her hair in a bun enhances the simple, yet subtle style.

  13. I like the coats worn by CP Mary and Princess Benedikte. Queen Margrethe's shawl/cape is like an old blanket and the coat worn by Queen Letizia looks like it's too big for her. However, indoors, Queen Letizia's dress is gorgeous and Queen Margrethe looks good in pink.
