King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain are making a 3-day state visit to Denmark at the invitation of Queen Margrethe. On November 7, King Felipe, Queen Letizia,Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary attended a wreath laying ceremony at the Monument at The Citadel. Afterwards, they visited Copenhagen City Hall and the University of Copenhagen.

I really like Mary's black top and tweed skirt with black sash. It's a great look. I don't see Letizia and Mary engaging with each other during this trip so far. I would think they had a lot in common being the same age and both being former non-royals. They seem kind of distant. Maybe that is a result of all the royal protocols and hopefully they are buddies behind the scenes.
ردحذفSomehow, I cannot see these two warming up to each other. Apart from the many possible personal character differences, one is a queen and the other a queen-in-waiting, and that seems to mean something within those circles.

I took another look at the pictures and the ones later in the day at the hospital and while they are together and smiling they never look at each other or make eye contact & speak. They are smiling at other people while they walk together. I still get a distant vibe rather than a warm and inviting one. It could be they are in public and a bit nervous because people are around. I'm sure behind the scenes they are more freindlier.

ردحذفWell, laying a wreath is mostly for remembering the dead. Wearing a solemn color kind of goes with that? In a way that makes the handbag with colorful flowers a bit strange and inappropriate.

I should have used a more accurate term: "General Franco's Spanish regime" (not Spain) collaborated with Nazi Germany. It is true. True, many Spaniards fought against the dictator - and many Spaniards suffered. But sorry, Franco was also Spanish, the Falangists were also Spanish. He remained in power for almost 40 years. What percentage of the nation supported him, the Spaniards know better themselves. I will not dissect the historical details here, the fact is that Franco refused direct involvement in the war at the meeting with the German dictator in Hendaye. Spain remained neutral, although División Azul = División Española de Voluntarios fought alongside the Germans on the Eastern Front. It is also true that many Spanish Republicans who emigrated to France joined the anti-Nazi resistance.
I know more about history than you think, but the need to be brief caused a communication short-circuit. No need to be offended, every nation has its heroic and dark sides.
I just concidered why Spanish royal couple visited danish world war memorial - what kind of connection it is. Maybe just beceause Rememberance Day is near.

I think it is the custom on a state visit that there are proposals made before the visit takes place. I also think, if the visiting country does not want to visit a proposition made by the inviting country (for any reason what so ever) alternative possibilities are offered, so that the visiting country can choose something else. The Monument at the Citadel remembers Denmark's International Efforts since 1948. It is a memorial place and should be visited with respect. King and Queen of Spain paid their respect and honoured their host-country by laying a wreath. Now, if only you guys could behave respectfully.

Mary looks great. I think her look is overall better suited for the occasion, both outside (gloves, tights...) and inside. I don't mind Letizia's coat, but something's off about the look. Maybe it's the floral handbag, the big earrings...? The dress at least fits her nicely, it's not the most flattering cut on the model. Margrethe is Margrethe, I just don't understand the need for a hat indoors unless it's a church.
