  1. Nice cape and hat. The print on this dress is too big, I do like the evening gown. I think Maxima has the same in burgundy. Sadly, the murder of two Swedish Citizens dampens the festivities a bit. Did their Majesties receive a Portuguese Order? and the President a Belgium one. No Tiara. css

  2. Daywear: I would have chosen a smaller hat but it is an excellent outfit.

Evening wear: gorgeous dress in a beautiful colour that suits Mathilde. Her updo is fantastic. I like this look very much. Maxima has the same dress in burgundy. Damsel Dragonfly

  3. Excellent representation today of royalty at work and fashion worn while doing it.

  4. I like Queen Mathilde's cape and hat, the dress not that much. I love the evening gown by the Greek designer Costarellos. Queen Maxima has the same dress in wine red. The welcome ceremony had to take place entirely indoors because of the terrorist attack on Swedish football supporters yesterday evening in Brussels. Two men were killed and the third one is fighting for his live at a hospital. The security level in the city of Brussels is still at the highest level 4. Rose

    1. Yes we got that news down in Australia. Very sad.

  5. The daywear outfit is nice but the hat is a bit big--the stock is too tall. Still, QM looks nice. The evening dress is beautiful--the green is a marvelous color for QM.

  6. I don´t like the cape-and-hat outfit as it gives me Zorro vibes. It looks costume-y rather than elegant. The evening gown is pretty.

    1. I think the dress and cape would be okay without the hat. The hat is too tall or too narrow but looks out of place. In spite of disliking horizontal stripes, I agree that the Queen suits the evening dress. Love to see a well executed curtesy as in Photo 6

  7. Wow! The Queen looks sensational. Love both these outfits.

  8. Yes I like both outfits, they would however not be on top of my list in Qn Mathilde's closet. Difficult to reach the top everyday.
I also express my sympathy to the Swedish colleagues on this blog. The security level in back at level 3 in Brussels I heard, since it seems established that the murderer acted on his own. Migration is such a difficult topic in Europe, and also elsewhere in the world.

  9. Although in general I like bold, large prints, I feel the day dress doesn't combine well with the cape because of these prints; to me it looks 'stiff' instead of smooth The jewelry and sash worn with the beautiful evening gown don't go very well together either, which is a pity, as the dress itself looks beautiful on QM

    1. @ Anonymous 18/10 08:46 The King and Queen have no choice they have to wear the sash and the Portuguese order. They already received it some years ago when on state visit to Portugal. The president of Portugal wears the purple sash foreign heads of state receive when visiting Belgium. Rose

    2. Rosé, I understand that they have to wear these, but don’t understand why one in this case doesn’t decide for a different evening gown on which the sash and order would look so much better

  11. Mathilde est superbe dans cette robe de soirée qui lui va beaucoup mieux que la tenue comportant cette cape qui cache trop sa silhouette ; sans elle, je pourrais voir que l'imprimé de Natan n'est pas mal du tout !

  12. Sorry but the cape, dress, hat combo is not my cup of tea.
I don’t understand the necessity to wear a hat like that indoors.
However, the evening dress looks fabulous.
It’s from the Greek fashion house of Christos Costarellos.
@Rose said above that Maxima has the same dress in wine red.
I’m not surprised as his work corresponds with Maxima’s taste and personality.

Slightly off topic but still related to fashion …..
Christos Costarellos has been dressing important names and royal ladies for over 20 years.
He was the designer whose wedding dress was worn by Carrie Symonds in 2021, for her marriage to Borris Johnston, the then Prime Minister of England.
It was a garden wedding and it is said that she wore the pale pink gown without shoes.
The retail price of the dress was quoted at around £4.000 but the new Mrs Johnston only paid £45 for the rental of the dress for one day from a “rent-a-dress” company in London.

Queen Mathilde has another dress by Costarellos. She wore it on state visit to Greece 2 or 3 years ago. I never saw her again in this dress. Maybe she rent it too. I know that "Essentiel Antwerp" has a rental service for certain of his dresses. The dress Queen Mathilde wore in red for the music contest Queen Elisabeth, CP Elisabeth in pink for the wedding of the CP of Jordan and CP Amalia in electric blue last Sunday for the Birthday of Prince Christian, were all the same dress but in a different color. One of the Dutch princesses, a daughter in law of Princess Margriet of the Netherlands, wore the same dress once. The fabric was made in different shades of green and white stripes. In the text under the picture was written she rent the dress at "Essentiel Antwerp". I don't know if the designer is still offering that service, but it is not impossible. I find it a good idea, each time you need an evening gown you can choose another dress in another color and nobody know. Of course in the meantime a lot of people know it already. There are probably other fashion houses who offer the same service. Rose

    2. I think it's a great idea the "rent-a-dress" system.
I understand that most men rent their bowtie and tails' outfit for when they attend weddings etc.
