On October 7, Crown Princess Leonor and her fellow cadets at the General Military Academy in Zaragoza took the oath of allegiance to the flag. King Felipe and Queen Letizia were present at the ceremony. The oath of allegiance is an important milestone in the Spanish military training and represents commitment to the nation and the Spanish people.
Princess Leonor, who will turn 18 on October 31, will take an oath to the Spanish Constitution on her birthday in a ceremony before the Cortes Generales in the presence of both members of the Congress and the Senate. Afterwards, King Felipe will present the Collar of the Order of Charles III to the Princess on the occasion of her birthday, and in the evening, King Felipe and Queen Letizia will host a private dinner at El Pardo Palace.
She was perfect. I couldn't believe this 17 y.o.princess, was forming and marching like any other cadet officer in the Spanish military. We are so proud of her in Spain.

It is not the normal thing, only Leonor kissed the flag, the rest not. The flag IS very old, from 1800 or so.
حذفAlthough the dress fits QL perfectly and the colour suits her well, I'm not a fan of the skirt part because of the strips of fabric. To me it appears that a straight skirt would give a much better overall impression.

ردحذفThe gala uniform looks not very comfortable. I preferred the one Princess Elisabeth of Belgium was wearing at the National day with a skirt for the female cadets (in the meantime she became an officer). I also saw a picture of CP Elisabeth in her daily uniform which is very light : a pencil skirt, a shirt, a tie, a military jacket and a hat (beret). Of course they cannot choose but have to wear the uniform which is chosen by their country and follow the rules that are foreseen for every soldier the same.

Belgium is independent since 1830. The country existed already before Julius Caesar who talked about the "Belgae" (the Belgians). Willem of Orange lived partly in Brussels in the 17th century. King Phillipe's gala uniform is inspired on the uniform of Leopold I of Saxe Cobourg Gotha, who served in the British Army before he became king of the Belgians. The gala uniforms changed of course a bit during history. King Phillipe and his children are wearing the last version, which in Belgium are different for men and women (a skirt instead of trousers but only for the gala and the daily uniform) it always has been like that since women were allowed to have a military career. Leonor is going to be the Head Commander of tha ALL Spanish Army, as her dad is now.

حذفElisabeth did one year of Royal Military Academy (the RMA is the equivalent of university) and not some months. After that she went to Oxford University to study Politics and History and during the last 2 Summer holidays she went on military training camp with her fellow students from the RMA instead of going on holiday.
I know Leonor must (will) do 3 years. It was in our news papers too and on the internet. I never said she was not. Elisabeth did all weapons like they call it in Belgium the same as every Belgian prince did before her. If a prince (or a princess in this case) wish to learn or to achieve another discipline like Prince Phillipe did, who is also an helicopter pilot and a para commando, they can do it, but Princess Elisabeth does not have to do it. Prince Laurent went to the navy f.ex. Prince Gabriel on the contrary he well continue to achieve the full program, I think. It is not sure yet. What Princess Elisabeth will do after her studies at Oxford university is not sure yet. But there are rumors she will gradually be prepared to represent her father and she will be sent on economic missions abroad, just like King Phillippe did when he was a prince.
The young European princesses all make their parents proud, I just read Ingrid Alexandra of Norway started also the military program that is developed for her. Don't know how many years she must do.
So it is not really important that a female officer is wearing a skirt or trousers in parades it is all the rest that counts. Rose

ردحذفHad to laugh to myself, as I am not a fan of polka dots or ruffles. And this dress has both and I like it :-)) Like the draped waistband. It fits perfectly and with Letizia, her good posture helps to make every dress look better.
