I don’t like the shape/cut of this dress. The skirt flares out flatteringly and also the material is too shiny and busy. I do like the coral dress and jewelry the woman in pic #1 is wearing.

I think it's a lovely dress. The colour and fabric print is fun and bright and Maxima wears it very well. The shorter, bouffant skirt is youthful, but then again...why not? If you can pull it off, then do it - and she does, with flying colours.

  5. C'est une bien jolie robe mais qui manque de fluidité au niveau de la jupe ; j'aimerais savoir si le collier de la dame de la première photo est constitué de de médaillons en nacre ou autre ?

Maxima's dress is too shiny and "heavy" for my taste. (Only a heavy and unyielding textile fabric holds such a shape). I prefer soft comfortable materials and looking at this dress vividly reminds me of the uncomfortable feeling I had when I wore a dress made of similar material.
I find the coral dress of the lady on the king's right hand more elegant.

PS: Only after writing the comment did I notice that Maxima's dress are Natan ... a brand that I will definitely always avoid.

I suspect that if Mr. Natan was reading your comment, he would be quite happy of your decision to avoid his brand. He does not design the kind of style you have indicated that you like in your comment.

@ Stephanie and Anon 9:13 Eduard Vermeulen the designer behind the brand of Natan does make dresses in soft comfortable materials. The dress Queen Maxima is wearing here is an oldie. I respect the fact that she and Queen Mathilde are repeating their dresses regularly. Last summer Queen Mathilde had made a couple of dresses by Natan that were very light. And remember the dresses he already made 2 or 3 years ago for Princess Elisabeth, she wore on Belgium's National Day. They were so light that they almost blew away in the wind. Rose

QMax looks great here--pretty and polished. I like the dress but do wish the skirt belled out a bit more naturally and softly. Still, Max is looking marvelous here.

Another lovely dress. Like the symmetry with the lady on the King’s left in the second pic. I would prefer if it was a more fluid material but for Natan it’s good. The colour is great

I' ve ' processed' all of the royal couple's pics on this tour to South Africa.
I suspect that Maxima's ever- ruling turban has something to do with one or more hair pieces placed underneath.
The present pics are beautiful, love this dress with the slight balloon - like hem.
    Pretty print.
The King and Queen look perfectly groomed, neat and engaging, as always.

    1. @ P. the original.
      Exactly what I thought.
I mentioned this a couple of days ago in a comment I made.
I think it can be called a demi-wig amongst other names.
It’s a great asset for women who want a bit of volume, from time to time, to boost up their hairstyle.
I think she has well chosen her wardrobe for the tour.
The colours go well with the clear and glary South African sky and open atmosphere.
I’ve noticed that Maxima wore sunglasses at some of the events.

A bit off topic, fashion wise.
The Royal couple ran into protesters when they visited the slavery museum in Cape Town. Not a great deal of reporting from the press.
One photo shows Queen Maxima being helped by a group of bodyguards to get into her car. I read that Maxima asked the demonstrators to calm down.
She had a very strained and frightened look on her face.
I’m pleased that there doesn’t appear to have been any violence in the demonstration.
If the topic interests you, just do Google/ South Africa/ riots/ royal couple.

      Dear @ Deadeggs,
      thank you for the link
      I have read what happened.
Ok, now I'm m gonna say It openly.
When I first saw (on Friday) the pics referring to the royal couple's arrival in Pretoria , I began to a have a particular sensation, just like : something wrong was bound to happen.
Dutch colonization, slavery , the Boers and all that historical burden is still an open wound for many , I guess.
Unfortunately, my sensation was right and some demonstrators really protested in Cape Town so that the royals' bodyguards had to fall back on security paths to protect the couple.
I think it did not come across as completely unexpected for the Royals themselves and their security staff.

A 50s length would look far more advantageous. At least the length of the lady standing on the left.

  15. I like the color and pattern.I’m no expert, but it looks like upholstery-weight fabric. In my opinion, not a good choice for apparel.
