On Friday afternoon, September 1, 2023, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima hosted a lunch at Noordeinde Palace in The Hague for the outstanding Dutch people who have achieved success in various fields last year.
The 26 guests have recently received a prize or other distinction for their achievements in various sectors such as art and culture, media, science, sports and business. This time, the guests included the winners of the Libris Prize 2023, the Toon Hermans Award, the Cameretten Festival 2022, the Edison Pop 2023, and world champions in cycling, swimming, skating, snowboarding and chess.

DeleteFound out that the Touki dress is made of a so-called "technical fabric". That's why it has wrinkles. I don't know from what is made the blinky things on the hemline. Queen Maxima is in her green week/mood. The dark green suits her the best. Rose

ReplyDeletePoor posture, she should have crossed her legs at the ankles slightly tilted. I actually like the dress, very unusual and fun, but not for lunch, totally Maxima, the colour looks good on her.

I agree and I don't think it's wrinkled because on the model the fabrics look the same. Anyway Max dares to do something different and that causes sometimes a fantastic look and yes yes also sometimes wrong. Anyway somethinh to talk about on this blog

ReplyDeleteRather odd choice for a luncheon--bit more of an evening-style dress. The emerald green would be a good color choice but she covered up with a beige sweater--again, not sure about this whole choice. I really wish someone would or teach or help QM with how to sit properly. She needs to learn to close her legs--cross them at the ankle, slant them, etc.

Janet, I completely agree with you.Had I not known that it was Queen Maxima I would have recognized her because of the position of her feet! I don’t think that I’ve ever seen an adult sitting like that.It’s very strange indeed.
DeleteSomething is amiss with both royals, shoes not polished, hair sticking out, sweater with short dress. I do love the green colour, the shoes, the earrings and the smile.
ReplyDeleteW-A's shoes are polished. It is just the lighting. It would be ridiculous to think that a king didn't have someone to tend to his shoes and other attire. It is one thing to dislike their sartorial choices, and another thing entirely to think they are slobs.

ReplyDeleteThe outstanding people were dressed nicely, too bad the king and Maxima were a shambles, sitting slouched over, hair a mess, wrinkly clothing, skirt too short, and topped with feathers and a sweater. They are wealthy, they should dress like it, and not disrespect the award winners by looking so tacky. Rachel
ReplyDeleteYou could be surprised how wealthy noble people are dressed sometimes. They see so many people in their country and abroad. A simple lunch does not requires formal dressing. They don't disrespect the award winners at all on the contrary, they show that they can act just like anyone else and prefer not to dress too formal. What would you say if the king and queen were dressed in their best clothes to go to a dinner with common people, that they are overdressed ? That they don't take into account that civilians doesn't have much money to spend on an outfit they only can wear once. Rose
DeleteFor a lunch with people dressed in jeans QM is showing up in a hot mess of a dress, perhaps slightly suitable for cocktail hour. Can't get any better than that.

ReplyDeleteA glorious emerald green color. The fabric I don't like, the creasing is a no. The grey cardigan is not a good look. The overall look is lack lustre,. her hair and overall appearance.
ReplyDeleteI think the dress is fabulous, but not the right event. The Queen is hunched and missing her signature smile so maybe she wasn’t ready for the photo. Hope they were able to get a better shot for the winners to memorialize their achievements.
ReplyDeleteLove the colour of the dress and like the style though it looks like it's too short to be elegant. It's also as stated above a strange choice for lunch. The shoes are great.
ReplyDeleteIt is really looks like QM and WA cannot do any good any more. They cannot sit like you wish, their shoes are not polished (I don't see anything wrong). I think some of you need glasses. If someone explained why the dress is wrinkled you continue to complain about it. If she prefers to wear a dress in that kind of fabric it is her choice, besides Natan made other dresses with the same material. Now the king is attacked for his hairdo too. There are other kings and princes in Europe whose hair is too long the whole year. Everyone has the right to express their own opinion but please do it in a polite way like people with good manners.

ReplyDeleteThe lady sitting first from the left in the purple dress is a winner: beautiful dress, nicely styled hair, good posture. She's the only one who looks like she came to the awards ceremony. The others - including Queen Maxima - look like they've skipped work for their break.

She looks like she is about to laugh, actually...
However, what frightens me most is the idea Maxima could go up onto the next level...
I mean that there is a new trend going on just now, namely the sheer/ see -through mania in dresses and other pieces of clothing.
From a technical point of view, this means that .. a midi or long black dress may have an alternation of bits of normal' fabric and strategical bits made of sheer net.
The critical net points are : around the bust/ bodice, near the tummy , around the shoulders and all along the leg length, on both front and back of the dress.
In addition, these kind of dresses are very stretchy, with a skinny fit.
I am just shaking thinking about what could happen if...
