On the morning of September 27, Queen Maxima, together with State Secretary for Health, Welfare and Sport, Maarten van Ooijen paid a working visit to a community center in Amsterdam on the occasion of the Loneliness Awareness Week 2023. Week against Loneliness will take place between the dates of September 28 and October 4.

There, the Queen met with various initiatives that work to reduce loneliness, such as Oma Soep, Heimweeverhalen and the ZID Theater. The visit started with a conversation with participants of the National Coalition against Loneliness about the importance of the local approach in municipalities and the link with knowledge and science to combat loneliness.

What a strange outfit. The blouse is ok, the skirt, shoes, and messy hair a definite no. Edwina

Maxima is looking great! Except for the hair: she'd better wear it in a simple updo/bun or ponytale. It is the first thing you notice in these pictures :-( Kudos to the lady in blue who is also looking fantastic. Damsel Dragonfly

She always wears this messy hair. It conpletely distracts from her outfit. And it does not do

    2. To repeat what I’ve said several times, Maxima has chosen a low maintenance hairstyle which has been around for quite awhile.
It belongs to the “shaggy-chic” category of hairstyles.
      Or shag haircuts.
A quick shower and shampoo, a quick hairdry, a cup of strong coffee, a bit of lippy and bingo, you’re ready to hit the street running.
      BUT I don’t think it’s a good style for a Queen.
Plenty of photos on the net. Just google Shaggy-chic hairstyles 2023.

Without intending to be offensive I must admit her hair is a mess. But I must say that I admire her self determination and strength to "ignore" our comments and appear in front of cameras like that. Maybe she is an inspiration for teenage girls who are constantly insecure and put too much pressure on themselves. Of course she is a public person but also a woman like you and me. I like her sometimes strange outfits. Today's choice is really nice. I.P.

I have a very similar feeling each time I see Máxima's photos. Her impressive personality makes a stronger statement than the sum of what she wears and her hair. And each time I have to smile, also knowing that she can have a wonderful hairdo if she really has to. (GM)

I really like Maxima a lot but this outfit is a big no. The leather (?) skirt looks like cheap, green plastic and I don’t like the colors or pattern of her blouse. It looks better close up but from a distance looks muddy and dull. And yes, her hair is awful as has been stated many times on this site and needs a good trim. The best thing is her smile.

No, no, not at all fashion-wise. Messy hair, “poufy”, bow blouse, wide stiff skirt with huge buckle in off color and navy shoes- nope. Switching out the skirt for navy pants might save the outfit.
Lovely, engaging, friendly smile otherwise- which is what those present will probably most remember.

Oh no!!! That skirt is so awful in that shade of green (sorry but Kermit the Frog green was the first thing that popped into my head). Had the green been a dark green--forest green--it would be so much better. The blouse is quite pretty and has so many colors it can matched with so many skirts and trousers. As for her hair--egads, this is one really awful hair day.

Janet - Great comments and I outright laughed when you mention Kermit! I bet the outfits looks better in personal but I also want to just tweak the green color a bit to make it look lux as opposed to a friendly frog 🐸

As for the hair, I’ve never mentioned because I have the same hair. But I finally pulled the trigger on a couple of extensions, not for length, but for volume and it’s absolutely changed for the best. I get compliments all the time now, which is still a bit shocking! I feel like our beautiful Max could do something similar as well as get regular trims.

@ Anonymous 04:24 What did you think she is doing all the time when she has an important event or state visit ? She let her hairdresser incorporate extensions or false hairpieces in her own hair. For her every day work she leaves her hair natural. How many times it has been said here that she uses extensions. Sometimes I ask myself if the bloggers read the comments of the other writers on this blog. One cannot repeat eternally the same thing. Unless of course you are new on this blog then you couldn't know it. Rose

  29. Bad individual pieces that could only be made worse by combining them into one horrible outfit. I cannot understand why she thought that any of that stuff would go together - colour, style, texture, fit... nothing matches or complements each other. Well, the hair matches the mess, if that is what she went for...

    ReplyDelete
  30. Anonymous28/9/23 07:08

Contrary to almost all of you I like this outfit. It is not new but a repeat. The skirt is made of CACTUS LEATHER. Yes 22:58 you heard it right. The pattern of the blouse contains the same green. Her accessories are matching.
I read it earlier in the comments that a lot of people do not like green that is not bottle green or forest green. At least she is someone who really cares about the climate and is wearing regularly sustainable clothes. I won't say something about her hair. Everything has been said since a long time. I wonder why it is always Maxima that is attacked because of her hair. I never hear comments on Princess Anne's hair which is in bad condition too. I have pictures of my great grandmother who had the same updo like princess Anne.

    1. Thanks for these comments, they strike a right balance about several points. Regarding the hair I repeat it is trendy (look at magazines), so I understand she goes for it ; although I personally would not want it. I try however put it into perspective.
I agree with An07:08 about princess Anne, although the age situation is too different for comparing. Courage Maxima !

MaryT. Sorry but I disagree with you concerning the age difference. I never saw Princess Ann (unless when she was young before her 1st marriage) with loose hair. So there is no reason she cannot have a haircut. Never saw her mother the Queen with her hair up like she does. About the age difference, Princess Ann is younger than I am, I also have problems with my hair, I loose it. I always had and still have thick hair. Following the advice of my dermatologist I'm doing special treatments for people loosing hair due to age, loss of hormones, heritage,.... In my family there were different cases of hair loss. I also take nutrition supplements. All these treatments help but you have to do it all the time. When you stop the hair loss is coming back. My hairdresser always says that my hair is healthy and thick and my answer is yes but I am loosing it. My hairdresser also give me good advice : what to do and certainly what not to do if you are loosing your hair easily. You see this takes much of my time and maybe not everybody has as much time as I do (I am retired). Rose

Oh, my dear Maxima, you could have improved this outfit so well and It would have turned into a truly head turner number!
The skirt Is in a very nice colour but I would have opted for a more fitted design.
I would have paired it with a cream silk Lavalier blouse and a buckled leather jacket in same green shade plus cream pumps and an updo.
Jewellery: loop earrings, a bracelet and a simple necklace.
BUT her smile, well, it helps me forget all of this strange mix.

Would love to see this green cactus leather skirt on QM combined with a soft white or black woolen sweater and a ponytail. Believe this would be a fantastic combination (she can add her colourful Oscar de la Renta coat to it).

    1. I like your thinking. A woolen, fitted top, either black or white, ideally with a turtleneck, is the only thing I can imagine with the skirt. The belt has to go of course. Everything else needs to be simple and neutral as the skirt is already a statement piece. No crazy additions and that would include her colourful de la Renta coat which has enough interest to "make" an outfit all on its own.
      Yes to a ponytail!

I think Q Maxima don't need sweaters and coats already. It is still 20 degrees C in the afternoon. Her chauffeur is bringing her where she must be. She is going almost all the time into a building. So the warmer clothes will come out maybe next week as the weather forecasts are announcing colder temperatures. Rose

Ok, ok, I' m being partial again.
Some people say that I look like Pamela Anderson, which could be welcome to me but just restrained to my physical aspect...and that's all!

She doesn't have enough hair for that type of updo, I think. Maybe a Meghan bun would do the trick. You can see she takes care of her hair, it just get stringy below her ears. If she wants to keep it this long, she should just learn some updos or ponytale styles. Simple things can do the trick. Damsel Dragonfly

Yes, you may be right on this point.
Styling an updo like Pamela' s requires long thick hair, even though you can get some volume by overlapping hair layers.
It seems a hard procedure but it is quite simple to style ,actually.
You only need to have a bit of practise and a good fixing spray.
A flat iron could be useful too though not necessary.
It is a simple hairstyle but the result is what I call bombastic.

DSC here. I have problems signing in via my usual account. Tried for days now. Don't know where the problem lies. I do not like the look of QM here. It gives an unkempt impression as if not caring for outer appearance. The outfit is not put overly well together, although the pieces as stand-alones might be lovely. I might not be commenting as much now because it irks me a lot that I don't seem to be able to use my account for it.
